Town of 7,000 residents average of 100+ tickets per week. County also covers area and writes 50 to 80 tickets per week Use fines to support oversize police department. Avoid if possible take 45A through West Point if you have out of state tag. Avoid Chestnut and Mattuba Streets.
Comment (3/2005): In Mississippi when you talk about speedtraps you would think about RADAR, but only the MHP is allowed to use RADAR to check speed. Aberdeen hardly has an oversize police department. Figures for tickets are false, I live some thirty miles south of Aberdeen and drive through there very often. not only have I never received a ticket but have seen very few lawenforcement personnel. This is a quaint little town with a federal court house and a Corps of Engineer camp ground.
Comment (3/2005): With reference to your speed trap web site, http://www.speedtrap.org/speedtraps/stetlist.aspunder MS, Aberdeen. I tracked down the reason for the allegation that they are running a speed trap. A black chief of police was just elected over a white candidate. Considering the specific number of tickets professed, it could have come from only a person within the local law enforcement of Aberdeen. Discussing the aledged speed trap with many local folks, they all seem to agree, that a cop is hardly seen out on the high way, only in down town area. Now I am not trying to imply that the listings are all incorrect, I'm sure most more than likely are true. But this one is false.
