This small town in North Mississippi is ruled by some of the most pathetic cops in the state, you are followed if you drive through after midnight, they run your tag just to check you out, and God help you if you have out of state tags, they even pull over people from outside their own county "Prentiss",, they feel like people out after dark are up to no good, and most times you can't get in or out of town without going through a roadblock. if the sign says 35 mph you had better be doing 30 mph, but then they have "probable cause" to pull you ove to see why you are driving to slow...And the first question they will ask is do I smell alcohol/pot and search your car, my advise is to drive around Prentiss county all together if you can possibly help it....
Comment (5/2004): I sooo agree. I loath having to go throu there at all. Personally, I think they are power hungry and love showing it.
Comment (6/2004): this is true happened to me twice, i go around the couty if at all possible, althoug i have cut. there and have to go to hell sometimes
Comment (6/2004): I totally agree, I went to school there so I had out-of-county tags and if I went out late to get something to eat or run to Walmart, a cop would almost always follow for awile. I got pulled over twice and when the cop got to the window I asked what I wrong and he just wanted to know what I was doing out that late.
Comment (8/2004): stay on us hwy. 45. they cant run radar there, state law no radar on federal hwy unless town of of 15,000 pop. if you have to go thru on ms, 4 or 30 be careful it runs right past the police station on bypass30/4 they will do buisness on the doorstep if they can.
Comment (10/2004): Is this true? About the radar? I got a high ticket today. 81 in a 65. It was a trooper that got me, so tell me what I can do. It's my first ticket.
Comment (2/2005): only highway patrol are allowed to use radar in under 15000 population
Comment (4/2005): totally agree, this town makes there money by setting up early in the morning to catch students going to there 8am class. I was a student there and lived on campus and I also agree with the last comment that said they pull you over just for being out late. These cops need to assume the obvious and realize its a college town and that there is always going to be somebody out of the dorms really late on the road.
Comment (5/2005): Do not drive through Prentiss County Mississippi with any alcoholic beverage in your vehicle! Prentiss County is dry and the Police,Sheriff or State troopers will put you in jail for posession even if you are just passing through!
Comment (5/2005): What a hoot! I grew up in Booneville and had no problems with the cops here, but when visiting home once (in a car with out of state tags), I was stopped and when I asked what the problem was, there was no answer so I guess there is some truth in what was written.
Comment (7/2005): I agree. I grew up and live in a small community in Prentiss Co. and got a ticket for barely going over the speed limit on HWY 45. It is a dry county and unfortunately there has been a lot of drug trafficking and bootlegging in the past and is probably still going on in areas. They're always on the lookout for something bad happening. But I have to say it's really not any worse than any other rural counties in other states I've travelled including Alabama, Georgia, North Carolina, Tennessee, etc.
Comment (7/2005): How about this one ... I'm heading east on E Market St, I make a right on E Church St on red after a complete stop, a cop pulls me over. Cop says I was going straight through the intersection and not technically making a right turn. BUT -- head West on E Church St, you get a LEFT TURN LANE to head west on E Market. So I make a left turn in one direction, go straight in the other? Hmmm must have been my out of state tags.
