While traveling north on Old Canton after going past the airport, the speed limit drops from 45mph to 30mph with no warning signs. Police are usually sitting on the median behind the trees waiting on unsuspecting drivers to reach the 30mph sign and not have time to slow down.
Comment (2/2003): The Highland Colony Perkway has plenty of policeman watching out for the bad guys. Anytime of day.
Comment (6/2003): This is definately a favorite of the Madison Police. I travel the road frequently, and see an officer there often. It is impossible to see him until its too late. BEWARE! The speed limit drops to 30 MPH!
Comment (10/2003): I live in Madison, and drive this area many times. What the original poster didn't say it that there are several neighborhood entrances, a retirement home, a school and a park in this area. In addition, more than half of Madison's population is children ! In addition , the first section of this is medianed 4-lane, to allow the neighborhoods easy entrance and exit. At times I have done 40~45 in this section, and have been passed (!!) by other motorists. The speed posted for this section of road is reasonable, and I have no problem with anyone being pulled over for speeding here.Several other comments : I admit I am one who likes to drive an extra 5 or 10 above the limit. One learn that you can go a little above the limit here, but not alot (15~20 above). There is just too much of a chance that there will be children playing close by. Though I have seen people pulled over by the police in every instance that I have witnessed it was justified. I would have to defend the Madison Police as being both honest and very professional.

A police officer will sit right behind a church sign as you approach Lake Castle after just coming over a hill. Coming from Lake Castle, the view is blocked by trees, so you need to be sure to slow down to 35 mph, the cops are usually not picky enough to enforce the 20 mph children zone because the church is not used often.

Madison Police will be parked in the grassy median, or behind the airport office. The reason for the patrol is because of the near by churches, a retirment home, MRA school, strawberry park, and two neigborhood entrances along Old Canton Road.
