officer will hide on either route through town near town limits sign.licence checks/road blocks are a constant anytime day/nite. officers have above average gung-ho cocky attitude.
Comment (5/2002): I live in this town and it's VERY true. Police hear have NOTHING better to do!They are VERY cocky!
Comment (5/2002): New officers in the town have taken to following town citizens all the way to their driveways in an attempt to intimidate citizens
Comment (8/2002): Officers will stop you for a burned out tailight and then attempt to search your car. Be aware all you have to do is say no to the search. The law says without your consent they have to get a search warrant.
Comment (9/2002): To enforce a law,you must know the law.Yes, you must give consent to be searched. It's a giving fact some officers my even tell you they will arrest you if you refuse a search. They tend to forget your fourth amendment right.
Comment (9/2002): I've lived in Boonville for years and have never once been stopped at check point or harassed by the cops. I feel that the police presence is appropriate.
Comment (9/2002): I would like to address the issue of searches. Yes, you have the right to say "No" and refuse to be searched. The Officer however has the right to hold you there if he/she has sufficient probable cause to get a search warrant which can hold you up for hours. Then if there is "Anything" found in that search you WILL be arrested, instead of maybe just a citation and letting you go on your way. The moral to this story is, if you don't have anything to hide, let the officer search. 10 - 15 minutes as opposed to hours. It's Your time.
Comment (9/2002): Actually, the moral of this story should be, if you don't have anything to hide, there is no reason to let the officer search your private property. There is no guarantee that the officer isn't going to find something that was in his own pocket that he planted there. The only guarantee is to keep them out of your vehicle. Once they are in, they can pretty much do whatever they want. And, that includes damaging your vehicle for their search for "something."
