U.S. Hwy 70 through all of the Down East communities. There is a North Carolina State Trooper that is earning his paycheck. This route is a scenic route of the Carolina coast and there is communities from Beaufort to Atlantic (30+ miles of 2 lane road). The speeds change from 55 to 35 mph several times. The roads are full of curves and often their are no shoulders and the roads are surrounded by water. Don't get anxious after the 2 hour ferry ride. Obey the speed limit through these communities. North Carolina has several new troopers in this area and they are good at what they do.

Comment (7/2002): received a ticket on I85 south between Greensboro and lexington. Officer says I was doing 90 in a 70. There was no way possible There was a tractor trailer in front and behind me and a Rv to the left of me. He did not stop me until I got half way on the exit ramp for southmount road. When I saw the light behind me I pulled over and unbuckled my seatbelt to get my registratation out of glovebox. He then walks up to vechile and tells me that I was doing 90 in a 70 and that I did not have my seatbelt on. There is no way possible I was speeding Could it be that due to the fact that I have New York state plates?

Comment (7/2002): Some of the State Troopers down here drive unmarked solid color Lincoln Crown Victorias. They stay pretty busy in the summer months.

Comment (8/2002): There is nothing such as a lincoln crown victoria

Comment (2/2003): They are also driving the NC TROOPER " grey/silver" Ford Expiditions ...watch out!

Comment (3/2003): Whoever opted to add a tale about Greensboro area is in the wrong area of the state for this Carteret County segment.
