Mainly late at night. Anyone is fair game but sporty cars and cars with female occupants are targeted very very frequently. There are two Jeeps that have radar that typically hang out near the first stoplight going into town on N 55. There are normal marked sedans but aren't used very often. There are also a couple of strip malls that have nice obstructions that they can hide behind. They are not to be messed with. They have nothing to do except this. The department is know to have bad eggs and they keep a constant supply. It is also thought that there is some very shady practices involvin various methods of intrapment so if it seems fishy it is. They typically turn their radar off and on so don't go with full trust of your detector.

Comment (7/2002): Angier we just got a new Chief and we now run only Jeeps with the exception of the one marked Crown Vic which is used for Auxilary officers. All vehicles are equiped with VASCAR and new Kustom dual Anttena radar units. Primary points are any road coming into town speed is highly enforced due to the drugs coming into and out of Angier. All the bad eggs are gone thank you. We are just Cops doing our job. Also intrapment means that we had to place into your mind the desire to speed or break the law and we didn't you just didn't expect to get caught. Drive Safely.

Comment (7/2002): well my response to the article is there doing a great job dont break the law and you wont have anything to worry about will you just dont speed through my town

Comment (7/2002): Commenter #2 needs to how to properly use the english language and proper punctuation. If he/she is a cop God help the locals if that is the caliber of their police.

Comment (8/2002): I am the Chief of Angier Police Anthony Poppler. I was searching for information about Angier and located this site. I appreciate the comment made by the individual who stated that if you are breaking the law you are wrong. For the rest of the inconsistent people who wrote the articles, especially the one who thought they knew our equipment, you are very wrong. It appears that you don't know much about laws and the use of police equipment. Maybe you were given a citation or arrested and that is the reason why you need this web site. As far as bad eggs, please call me with any specific concerns with regards to my officers. General statements or anecdotes don't solve problems. If you want to know more about ethics or our common practices please feel free to call me at (919)639-7054 or e-mail me at apoppler@angier.org. Drive safely and wear your seat belt.

Comment (8/2002): For those who are concerned about Public Safety in the Town of Angier contact the Harnett County Safe Kids President Sgt. Anthony Joyner or Chief Poppler. We work with all Agencies to include the Governors Highway Safety Program to educate people on installing safety seats for children at no charge. For those people who need a child safety seat or a bicycle helmet the Angier Police Department and Safe Kids of Harnett County give away FREE seats and helmets. It is important to drive safely and obey the laws of North Carolina. There is a purpose why laws are enforced. Buckle up and drive safely.

Comment (9/2002): This place sounds like one of those... Boy your in a heap of trouble towns.

Comment (1/2003): To the person trashing Comment #2, I don't see the best use of the written English language on your part either.

Comment (2/2003): I see the common problem with cops in these one horse towns. The comment don't speed in my town says it all. It's not your town and you are supposed to serve and protect. Judge Dredd was a movie, not your reality.

Comment (3/2003): Speeding is not a law, it's a racquet. It's a shame that shop lifters are treated better than someone who has a couple of speeding tickets. I just moved back to the USA from Germany and now I fully understand that 15 miles over the speed limit is not dangerous at all.

Comment (9/2003): Everyone needs to stop trashing the officers in Angier and everywhere else who are only doing their jobs. And to the person constantly commenting on improper grammar, the only reason you are doing that is because the English language is the only subject you are competent in. Your argument is so baseless and weak that the only response you have is to comment on grammar. To the person who wrote that police officers need to serve and protect and not write speeding tickets, let me say this. We as officers are out risking our lives for you every day, and if you think speed enforcement is our favorite activity, think again. Officers write citations for clear-cut, substantial violations of the law and do this to protect the public against the dangers of reckless drving. Of course, as in any profession, there are bad apples, but don't you dare stereotype me and my brothers who have to listen to your ignorant criticism and then race to the scene to save your life when you need it. People, I work everyday to protect all of you and I am willing to give my life for each and every one of you, regardless of the cruelty of your baseless allegations and criticism. Think about that! Thousands of people die each year from excessive speed and impaired and reckless driving, all we are trying to do when enforcing these laws is to make the roads safer and to save lives. As far as the penalties for speeding compared to shoplifting, I agree that the penalties for stealing should be more severe, but bad driving gets off too easy, it kills people. If you don't want to hear this then I'm sorry, but you need to realize that you need to take your heads out of the sand. Finally, if you're going to be arrogant and disrespectful, at least know what you're talking about. Thanks and Take Care Everybody
