The section of Route 49 east from the Interstate to Waterville Valley is a 35 zone. Town and State Troopers are constantly here in moving mode - This is a main road for them to get anywhere - Skiers beware!
Comment (02/2007): Route 49 from I-93 to Waterville Valley. They use Pickup Trucks, SUVs and Cruisers. Sometimes they park alongside the opposite lane, alongside your lane, sometimes tucked into roadside parking areas, sometimes driving the opposite way, but always with KA band radar (usually waiting to pull the instant-on trigger at the last moment), and always looking for speeders to make easy money. There are several confusing speed limit changes (from 35 to 50 MPH) that are always well below what Rt. 49 is built for (in good conditions), as it\'s one of the best maintained highways in the state that\'s wide and with an excellent surface. BE CAREFUL!

The cops hide away in the lanes connecting the highway that only authorized vehicles are allowed to go in and you cannot see them until its too late because there are so many trees and they pull you over even if you are going 10 MPH over the speed limit. Also, on occasion when there is a long straight away they'll set up a speed trap where there will be two cars and in one car the officer will be doing radar and the other guy will be in the middle of the highway waving people to the side (to get a ticket) or to go on depending on their speed. The thing about that one is you just think it is a person in the highway so you go in the other lane and go really fast so they get a lot of people.
