rt 101a merimack town line to rt 122 intersection speed limit is posted at 40 mph even though its a 2 lane highway. speed drops down to 35 mph near junction of rt122. rt 101 speed limit drops from 55 to 45mph near rt 122 exit until bedford line. post road from montvernon line to village center is 30mph zone, dificult to do comming down from the great hill.

Comment (1/2003): Route 101 drops from 55 to 50, not 45. It stays 50 through Amherst and doesn't drop to 40 until the Weathervane. (Assuming you're heading North)

Comment (2/2003): Amherst has very reasonable Speed Limits. 101A from Merrimack to Route 122 has seen many improvements made. However, people who get tickets in that stretch usually deserve the ticket. If all you get is a ticket, be thankful, think, don't speed. Amherst Rescue and Fire Departments don't want to treat you and some innocent other person.

Comment (6/2003): rt 101a is 4 lanes with a middle turn lane. 35 mph is ridiculous! It's just a good way for the Amherst cops to have a reason to stop you if they want to.

Comment (9/2003): Police normaly stop car that have no passengers

Comment (12/2003): rt 101 at rt 122 intersection: Even silver haired little old ladies pass you if you go the speed limit. The Milford Ambulance was even ticketed there!

Comment (1/2004): haha, an ambulance got a ticket? i see people getting pulled over there all the time, especially at night (7-10) i think the speed limit is low, 50 or 55 would be ok.

Comment (4/2004): Since moving to Southern Nh 6 mos ago, I have continually been dismayed to see artificially low speed limits and strict enforcement as a revenue producing scam. It isn't only Amherst. It's Merrimack and Nashua to a degree too.I might add that I have not received a ticket (yet), so this is not sour grapes. I just don't like to see the disrespect and contempt this type of scam breeds for the Law and law enforcement officers.

Comment (6/2004): I agree since I travel that this route several times a week. Also, if you turn left on Amherst Rd.(opposite Purgatory Rd.) there is another trap at the bottom of that hill.

The whole town is a speed trap. Although I must say they get everyone 15 or more over on any street. Every patrol car has mobil radar. Problem is, the whole town is 30 mph except for 101A (35) and 101 (55)

these are the most popular spots for police to park on 101 going through Amherst. 101 is regularly patrolled and speeds are usually enforced above 11 mph over. The police in this town can be very lienient if you are cooperative with them, just make sure to keep it around 6-8ish over and you *should* be fine.
