After turning off of Barnegat Boulevard, and heading toward the timbers section, there comes a hill that is marked 25MPH - this is something to watch for, since letting the car coast, you could easily achieve 35-40. Police will ticket for doing 31 in a 25... since this has happened to me before.

Comment (1/2005): I agree, enforcement is sporadic and they will ticket you...I live in this neighborhood.

Comment (1/2005): This comment isn't specific to this speedtrap, but I would like to make people aware that if you do get a speeding ticket in Barnegat and you go to court and plead guilty to a lesser charge, you will wind up paying a larger fine for the lesser charge than you would have for the higher charge. The reason? The judge has discretion over fines. Every single person in court the day I was there pled down to the lowest speeding charge, and every one was fined the maximum ($150). So don't do this unless the higher charge will cause you to lose your license.

Right on Gunning River Road, there are 3 speed traps, all in a row. This will take you from the Route 9 side. First, a little clearing on the left, since it is easy to have a cop tuck in behind the bushes. Second, will be a street again to the left, and this will provide another cover for them to hide. Last, is another little outcropping of trees on the right, and this is where there are cars for sale, fooling some into believing that a cop is trapping there.
