They give winter rentacops badges and guns and tell them to write tickets. I'm a lifeguard in Barnegat Light and I don't drive after dark or do anything over 30 mph.

Comment (12/2002): Most of LBI is like this. The speed limit drops for the summer season, but the cops are really bored during the winter with nothing to do. I lived in Loveladies for 2 years, year-round and got stopped a few times for silly reasons. Beware, on the north end of the island, primer spots seem to be probable cause. It's a rich area, and if you're driving an old heap, the cops will pay more attention to you.

Comment (8/2002): Yes This is true. I live in Bayhead and the cops pulled me over for going ot fast on my bicycle once and gave me a ticket.
