When coming from the Avon side of the bridge heading to Belmar the police sometimes sit in the Strollo's ice cream parlor parking lot. The speed limit is 35 coming over thee bridge from Avon and drops to 25 at the other side of the bridge in Belmar after the light and is only 25 for a block or so before rising to 30 again. Be careful Belmar issues more than its share of traffic summonses at least 400/month in summer. The same goes for heading into Avon police are right across the bridge on the opposite side of the soccer field behind the 35mph sign and will stop u for doing 38.
Comment (10/2002): This is true. I was stopped by a cop at 6:00am. I think the cop gave me a break because I have firefighter plates. Watch out.
Comment (7/2003): As a Belmar-area cab driver, I'm across this particular bridge several times hourly (or whenever it's actually down...). The Belmar cops are tough, but they're pretty busy and don't really seem to hang around in any specific spots, including the obvious Maclearie Park mentioned in the next post. As unpleasant as it seems, it's better to just deal & do the speed limit. The Avon cops however, are a little more pressed to generate revenue & sit just about nightly on the northbound side of Main St., directly across the bridge. Incidentally, the speed limit in Avon has dropped down to 30 mph since the opening of new bridge over Rt. 35.

Cars sit just inside the entrance to the park, usually facing the Rt 35 northbound traffic. Posted limit is 35. Slow down once you pass the RT 71 light. This is mostly a night time spot, with summer weekends a guarantee. Be aware, they sometimes sit facing the southbound Rt 35 traffic, at the exit of the park, so slow down once you pass the Belmar Blvd-16th Street light. Also, Belmar cars are hard to see at night, especially the "stealth" car that is usually used at this position. Almost all use Ka-band, and they never leave it on, always using their instant on switch, leaving you absolutely no time to react, radar detector, or not.
