The New Mexico Highway Department has designated a 17 mile stretch of Interstate 10 from the Interstate 25 split to the Texas state line as a "Safety Corridor". They have implemented double fines for speeding ($69 to a maximum of $439!) and the enforcement has been greater than usual. The county Sheriff and state PD generally use radar but they do posses a laser unit or two. A similar "Safety Corridor" has been set up from Deming, NM west to Lordsburg, NM along I-10.
Comment (2/2004): I got busted in this area by a New Mexico Highway Department officer. NOT a New Mexico State Trooper or S.O. BE CAREFUL! They will get you on I-10 from the I-25 connection headed East To Texas! Also the New Mexico Highway Department cars have their lights on (headlights) all the time! Watch out! Just because they aren't a S.O. or NMSP! They have plain D.O.T. Cars that will get you! Watch it!
Comment (2/2004): The Speed Limit on the safety corridor on I-10 is 70 mph,
Comment (2/2004): the only Speed Limit 70 signs to exist on an interstate are on I-10 south of Las Cruces and I-40 east of AlbuquerqueUsually it's 75 in rural New Mexico
Comment (3/2004): you gotta love US 70, US 70 is the only US Highway where you can legally drive 75 mph, day and night, all vehicles, (unlike Texas), but be careful, US 70 between Las Cruces and Alamogordo at White Sands Missile Range only stays 75 mph for about 27 miles, then it goes back down to 65 mph. San Augustin pass is dangerous to speed as you ascend, and as you descend, you have to be very careful as you speed very quickly coming down east bound US 70 around milepost 164-166 east of Organ
Comment (8/2004): The S.C. on U.S.64 from I-25 to Clayton has a speed limit of 65mph.
Comment (4/2005): You think slowing down to 65 mph is bad, wait til you get to Texas, at night, where the speed limit is capped at 65 for the entire state! At least in NM you only have to slow down to 65 in city limits, in Texas, at night you have to drive 65 even on rural interstates.

Comment (01/2008): I have to say that some of the posted speeds in New Mexico are absolutely rediculous. Some spots between Texas and Raton slow the driver down to 35mph. The road is great, visability is great, but the speed is just stupid. This is a speed trap if ever I saw one. I\'m all for safety but come on guys. Just ticks me off!
Comment (09/2008): Actually, there is no general 65 mph urban freeway speed limit in NM. There are some though, but those are local restrictions. It\'s almost always 75.
