Nice cash cow for these hicks. TWO cars wait for unsuspecting out of state vehicles coming into town on US 82. Good luck with these losers that don't have anything better to do than fleece the pockets of visitors.

Comment (4/2004): I disagree as soon as you come into town your imediatly in an Elementary school zone and the speeds are slowed way down before you come around the bend into town. this individual is just mad over thier own stupidity

Comment (5/2004): Interesting...as a law enforcement officer of 30 years (I am the supervisor of 3 other deputies in the Cloudcroft area), I live in Cloudcroft and have worked for the sheriff's dept here for 6 plus years. Cloudcroft has three officers, only one works at a time. The Hwy 82 center of this small village takes you by the elementary, middle, and high schools in a continuous stretch. One of the Cloudcroft officers is fairly aggressive in writing traffic citations. Limits are clearly posted. To the west of the village, Hwy 82 drops more than 4,000 feet in about 12 miles. Until the State of NM designated that portion of Hwy a special Safely Corridor (due to a very high number of traffic injuries/ fatalities), we normally responded to a traffic fatality as often as every 30-45 days (in the past). Cloudcroft, a speed trap?...I don't see it, but each person has their own view. My advice...slow down a bit, enjoy life! I helped handle the worst traffic accident I've seen in my career here on Hwy 82...six dead teenage girls (from a church bus), one dead adult. Think about it...

Comment (05/2007): I also come from a family of law enforcement and I myself use to run a wrecker/recovery service from the town 4,000ft below this quaint little town before I wound up in a wheelchair for the rest of my life! I\'ve helped to recover some of those \'bodies\' or \'friends\' from those \'accidents on that mountain! We should ALL SLOW DOWN a little an try to enjoy life just a little bit more before something happens that either takes it away or takes away a big part of how you enjoy it! Cloudcroft is no speedtrap! They are trying to keep from having to scrap you up off the pavement or out of the bark of a tree a little farther down the hill!
