I-40 westbound just after junction 178, the road takes a fairly tight right turn. Police car sets up well off the road on the right side so you don't see him until it's too late. This whole area between Edgewood and Albuquerque has seen a lot of activity ( in both directions) since it went back down to 65 a while back.

Comment (8/2005): didn't the speed limit used ot be 70 ?

Comment (1/2006): I was caught as I came over the hill enroute to Albuquerque...I had my cruise control set so as NOT TO SPEED. I didn't even see any change in speed limit signs, as several trucks may have blocked my view of them. Anyway, the cops had 2 squad cars in the median by the overpass and had their hands full pulling people over for doing 5 to 10 mph over the limit.

Comment (3/2006): The I40 corridor is now a safety corridor from tramway and I40 east/west all the way to the county line at approx mile marker 184 so fines are doubled if you get the ticket for speeding now. They run radar at mm 169 Carnuel right by the center of the overpass as well as center median around the cedar crest exit which is mm 176 east and west and west usually right before the west bound exit not particular on time of day usually bernalillo county and the dot writing the tickets ocassionaly state will have some fun. this is a very high law enforcement area since the bernalillo sherrif's dept is right off of the cedar crest exit mm 176 and dot around exit 178 and state patrol substation exit 187 in edgewood always want to keep your eyes open.

Comment (4/2006): The whole stretch between Edgewood and Albuquerque on I-40 is now a designated "Safety Zone" and fines for speeding are doubled. This whole area is heavily patrolled. One point of special note is when starting down Sedillo hill west-bound into the Canyon, about three or four miles east of Tijeras village, the road turns to the left, but your view of what is ahead on the right is blocked by the hill in front of you. Sheriff Deputies position themselves on an access road that parallels I-40 on the right side, near exit 178. You don’t see them until you round the bend, and even then you have to be looking for them since the access road is up on the side of the hill, well above the level of I-40. They sometimes use laser so that as you round the bend they already have you nailed (if you’re speeding). They have their buddies lined up on the west-bound entrance ramp to I-40 at exit 178, and as the laser operator nails people, they radio ahead to the guys on the entrance ramp (whom you can’t see either) who then pull people over. In short, it is very unwise to even think about speeding on I-40 between Edgewood and Albuquerque.
