Dona Ana County Sherrifs along with New Mexico State Police vehicles lie hidden in the medians behind tall mesquite bushes from 3-6 miles north of Las Cruces sometimes numbering from 2-6 units. Be aware that double fines are in order being that it is a construction zone up to a mile before and after exit#9/Dona Ana posted speed drops from 65-35mph pretty quickly which is the catch. Exit#9/Dona Ana is north of Las Cruces between Fort Seldon and Las Cruces.

Comment (9/2006): This area is an ongoing construction zone and the speeds do not drop that quickly. Irresponsible drivers maintain a 70-80mpg speed through this zone causing hazardous conditions.

Sheriff will park in the median just west of the Brahman Road overpass, watching for Westbound speeders. Since the overpass "pops-up" over Brahman Rd, westbound drivers cannot see the sheriff until they go over the top of the overpass. Speed limit is 65 mph, with typical traffic speed 67-70 mph.
