State Police use radars on opposite side of highway to measure speed while in motion.
Comment (1/2003): Should read US70, not I-70.
Comment (10/2002): So true. I got ticketed while a State Trooper was tailgaiting a semi on the otherside of the state hwy coming from El Paso. As soon as we passed each other my radar detector went off and he turned around to ticket me.
Comment (2/2003): Not true, there is no I-70 in New Mexico. False information.
Comment (3/2003): Its actually U.S. 70 West heading to Las Cruces between Holloman AFB and White Sands Missile Range
Comment (4/2003): The person who comented on 10/2002 is mistaken as well as the highway running from El Paso to Alamogordo is US 54
Comment (4/2004): both US-54 and US-70 are the speed traps for the alamogordo area
Comment (5/2004): True. State police park on opposite sides of the road. After clocking they proceed to the stop and citation.
Comment (6/2004): I was ticketed on the section of the road that goes around Alamogordo, not on the one that goes through. You would think that the purpose of this one is to provide faster transportation without lights. Wrong. There are no lights but the same speed 55 limit as on the busy road through the city. Btw. there are lots of places in the area that have "construction" zones for long miles but you never ever see a worker anywhere, but the "double fine" signs. How interesting.
Comment (7/2004): I travel US54 from Alamogordo to El Paso everyday, there are frequent speed traps between Alamogordo and Oro Grande and in Alamogordo itself during early morning hours when working, tax paying people are going to work. Too many law enforcement agencies in this area and too little serious crime to keep them busy.

They will be sitting on either both sides of the road, or in the center median looking for cars going east or westbound in or out of the city. Westbound, the officer sits just just outside Milemarker 210 (which is the official Alamogordo city limits) and clocks people. What's a pain is that the speed limit is 45 and slowly goes to 50, then sity a mile later. What's deceptive is that a Hwy 70 sign is about a mile past that. Cars think it looks like a speed limit sign and speed up. They sit behind a bush hidden from view and have no remorse for you speeding. This tickets if only 5-6 miles over the speed limit will be about $50-70. Eastbound, they will catch you as you are going into town when the speed limit drops rapidly from 60 to 50 to 45 within 100 yards. They will be parked on the side of the road near the self storage place and looks like a car parked there doing nothing. By the time you see them....too late.

Usually parked at the restaurant on the lower side of the street, almost always at least one car there, in the evenings especially on the weekends sometimes 4 or 5 cars.
