Just past the curve going north toward Hatch on I-10 - speed increases to 65...sheriff's dept hides on the south side of the road...Be sure not to increase speed until you actually reach the sign which is clearly visible. No warnings, even with a perfect driving record!

Sunday afternoon 3:30pm 08/18/2002, road condition good, trafic light. Sherif standing in frount of construction cones just after a curve in road. No speed zones marked after Construction Ahead Sign at MM.78, this was a doubld fine area. Posted speed was 65. Officer was on the left side of road as he waved me over to the right shoulder, he was almost run over by a truck doing about 60.

I turned onto Hwy 26 to Hatch, NM and geared up to 58 mph, thinking the speed limit was 55 mph. When I saw the 45 mph sign (more than a mile out of town) I slowed down. The cop was sitting there waiting. He lied by saying that the 45-mph sign was one of 3 or 4 such signs that I should have seen, so he had to give me a ticket. He said if it were the only one, he would not give me a ticket. One must enter a plea immediately so I pled guilty, thinking he was telling the truth. ON returning through Deming days later I found that was the ONLY sign. I wrote to MVD in Santa Fe twice asking for reconsideration of my plea on the basis of the lying cop. They never bothered to answer and turned the matter over to Arizona who threatened to revoke my license. No wonder people disrespect cops. PS, I have no real knowledge of the "level of enforcement" since I don't live in Deming, NM.

On President\'s Day the unit was pulling folks over bouncing across the median as part of the pursuit. In their haste they would grab the first car they saw; in my case I was going the speed limit, not that it mattered to them. See http://www.sdc.org/~jacobsj/run-in.html.
