I travel through the Hoover Dam weekly and have seen allot of new police officers enforcing a 15mph zone around the security checkpoint at mile marker 2. I have been sited three times in this area because they hide behind a small hill. It seems like the day time is when they enforce this speed limit the most. It is federal property and the cops are federal police officers. Each time I have been stopped they were nice but they will not cut you any slack. Also, when I have been stopped by one officer, four or five other cops come out of nowhere. They drive white SUV, Crown Victoria’s and bicycles.

Comment (1/2005): Yes, you are so right! I went through there twice at nighttime and they have a cop sitting right there in a marked unit by the 15 mph zone. I actually passed somebody in opposing traffic lane and didn't notice the copper in rock area until it was too late. I was fortunate unlike yourself in that he either didn't see me because he was doing paperwork or he was asleep:)

Comment (4/2006): I have been stopped also on the NV side of the dam for exceeding the 15 MPH speed limit. They warned me but no citations as I was doing between 20 and 25 at the time. The speed limit is reasonable due to the sharp curves and the numerous pedesterans in the area. This speed limit is only enforced from the power station where it is first posted until you get to the 2nd or 3rd curve on the AZ side of the dam.
