Posted 55, on a WIDE 4 lane with a center Median,NV hwy patrol, and sheriffs 4x4's cruise, and hide along side of road. On Hwy 50 and ALT 50 split all the way into Fallon heading East. Same on the East side of Fallon heading West. Just did major road makeover Guess they need the money.

Comment (3/2006): My wife drives Hwy 50 from Fallon to Fernley. So many deaths and accidents have occured in this stretch of road, that more NHP should be assigned. Drivers don't even follow simple directions, like turning on your headlights during the day to help avoid accidents, (this is a ticketable offense, although not super enforced). If you drive the Hwy between these two small Nevada towns, count the number of white crosses just on your side of the road, and imagine your name on one. Just in the last two years over a hundred accidents and I believe the fatalities are over 30%, and mostly out of state cars are at fault.

Comment (3/2005): this is not a speed trap, there have been so many accidents and DEATHS on that section of road that the NHP is trying to save the lives tha drive 10 to 25 MPH over the speed limit.

Comment (5/2005): I would like to see more highway patrol presence on this highway. I travel it frequently between Fernley and Fallon and have lost track of the number of times I've been forced to the shoulder to avoid a head-on from some idiot passing 4 cars in a row going the speed limit! They usually have a cell phone stuck to their ear as they pass. Countless innocent people have lost their lives on this stretch of highway because of driver stupidity! Turn on your headlights and go the speedlimit! You'll get to your destination on time and in one piece.

Comment (5/2005): Wish there were more NHP. Have driven from Fernley to Fallon many times and that road is a death trap. The new road is okay but it will not be better until the whole road is finished to IS80.

Comment (6/2005): This is the only place I have EVER been pulled over for speeding, but it was in the city where the speed limit on this 4 lane highway with a center turn lane was 25 mph! I was doing all of 29 mph. However, I agree with above comments that in the county, people go too fast (generally 75 in the 55).

Comment (9/2005): Enforcement on Alt 50 between Fernley and Fallon is particularly heavy as of 9/2005 due to a rash of deaths on this stretch of road.

Comment (4/2006): I have seen 4 people die on Hwy 50, between Fallon and Fernley. Everyone was speeding at least 85 in the 60 mph area.

Comment (2/2006): My family personally knows 3 people who have died on this road from head on collisions and from speeders trying to pass. More enforcement.. not less.

Comment (3/2006): i agree with all of the coments above.I travel the highway from fernley to silver springs and we have the same problems'so many lifes have been taken some by careless acts.we need more hwy patrol on our roads. they do the best they can.

Comment (3/2006): I can't wait till its all 4 lane, it will be much safer, but i bet the NHP will pay for the new road with an overwhelming amount of tickets. May be cheaper to go to Fallon Fernley VIA I80. Going East out of Fallon 55 till 1/2 to Grimes Point. Slow down or say Hi to Winchester

Comment (8/2006): Drive Fernley to Fallon frequently. Fernley Roud-about a disaster for trucks. Road not wide enough, improper planning, for that size round-about build exit 50 first and ban trucks from the round-about. Secondly why???? some center strips on and the new Fernley Alt 50 are black topped, at night and in blizzards, drivers could mistake this for the road, need reflectors bad! And yes where is the NHP when the stupid drivers pass? one lane in a construction zone, almost bought the farm.
