Boulder City cops are often sitting on U.S. 93/95 just as you enter Boulder City from the west, where the speed limit drops all of a sudden. Sometimes it's a real cop, and sometimes they park a police car there with a dummy inside. Be careful, regardless. The speed limit drops another 10 MPH as you enter state route 26, which passes near the police station. On the east end of town, be extremely careful once you enter Lake Mead National Recreation Area, where the speed limit is far too low for conditions and the National Park Service cops tend toward zero-tolerance enforcement. There is almost always one NPS cop waiting on the west end of Hoover Dam to ticket speeders. Clark County Metro police heavily patrol U.S. 95 south between Boulder City and CalNevAri in 4x4s. The Metro police are a little more tolerant, you can go 10 or so MPH over the limit before they will ticket you.
Comment (7/2002): This post is still valid although it is dated. Boulder City police now have a full time traffic officer driving either a Harley or a new black Dodge Durango. They are hard to spot although marked.

Police frequently hide in the desert behind the contrete barrier walls and nab speeders going both into and out of the west side of town (between Boulder City and the Railroad Pass Hotel/Casino). The overpass is on top of a hill, so by the time you see an officer it is too late.

This trap snared me as I was leaving Boulder City NV. First, you make a turn at a stop light and go up a moderate hill. The speed limit sign is obscured by other signs and a tree. As you crest the hill and begin to go downhill toward Lake Mead, you inevitibly pick up speed. The speed limit stays 45mph as you are leaving town and the local law enforcment exploits this to extort money from unsuspecting out of towners. By the time you see the first unobstructed speed limit sign, they already have you before you can correct your speed. BEWARE

The speed limit is 35 mph on this stretch of highway coming down the mountain, which is unrealistic and well below what you would expect. City police target tourists coming from Hoover Dam. My ticket was for traveling 63 mph in a 35 mph zone the price was $227.00. The officer admitted the tickets in Boulder are expensive, he told me "the casinos make all the money in the area but the local community does not see any of it."
