A five mile stretch of road has been posted for 55 MPH for no obvious reason. The rest of the highway is posted for 70. NOTE: Old signs such as Caution 60 MPH Turn are still up. I was ticketed for going 60.

Comment (7/2002): As any Nevada would know, the town of Ely is in White Pine County!

Comment (8/2002): you have stated there was no apparent reason for the posted 55mph speed limit. this area is sometimes refered to as death valley, many many accidents occurr in this area, mainly because of lack of attention to the numerious turns and curves in the area. I respond on the ambulance to that area, and have seem many deceased drivers who prefer to driver faster then the posted 55. for your own safety and certainly for the safety of others drive 55, a ticket may be the best thing that can happen to you.
