On Hwy 395 going through Washoe Valley (directly north of Carson City), it is extremely common on sunny, clear mornings to see the NHP's aircraft patrol pacing automobiles that are traveling northbound (from Carson City to Reno). The NHP aircraft typically paces these northbound travelers at the south end of the valley, and the ground-based pursuit NHP vehicles generally are congregated underneath the Bellevue Road (Exit 44) overpass. Sometimes there are 4 or more NHP patrol cars under the Bellevue Road bridge, just waiting to pull people over. The vast majority of the time, this trap appears to focus upon northbound traffic, but I have seen them occasionally use it for southbound traffic as well. The speed limit on this stretch of road is 70 mph, but since Hwy 395 going through Washoe Valley is essentially a 9 mile long straightaway, people commonly go over 70 mph.

There is sometimes a highway patrol vehicle parked behind the fence at the shell station on US HWY 395 and STEWART ST. I have seen them parked behind the shell station as well. They are positioned for southbound traffic. The frequency is about 4 times during the business week. The speed limit is 25 but i have been nailed at 35-40 with no action taken. Just beware.

The Carson City Police are frequently hidden in driveways waiting for unassuming motorists to violate the 25 MPH limit. This is a residential area but motorists frequently speed on Arrowhead from or to HWY 395 as there is a very large scope of business's further East. BEWARE, I have seen the Carson City Police hidden somewhere along this stretch almost everyday over the last month..!

The reservation police are awesome at turning their lights off and waiting for people to speed by the intersections of the off streets.
