This particular area is about 1/2hr from the Canadian border and has some seriously heavy duty enforcement. State troopers hide out in ditches at curbs and hills and face you, but you cannot see them until you are at the end of the curb. By that time, it's way too late, because you're already caught! Be careful going around bends and curbs. Do not drive over the speed limit and if you do, make sure that you are driving between speeders, and not in the front or in the back. If you are driving without a follower or leader, be sure not to speed or you're already caught. The road here is always clear and you can drive miles without someone following you. They know how eager you want to get to the Canadian border, so they anxiously await your arrival.

Comment (6/2004): On the interstate between exit 35 and exit 33, the police presence is unbelievable. Don't these people have anything better to do? I was stopped for 84 in a 65. Considering I had the cruise set at 70, I think 84 is a little absurd. On top of that, the trooper writing me the ticket was not the one that clocked me... This must be very lucrative for someone.

Comment (9/2004): I was also pulled over for 84 on a 65 in Ausable. I wasn't paying attention to my speedometer, but I don't think I was doing 84. I think it was more like 75 in the left lane. I mean come on 75 on a 65? I'm from New Jersey and it's alot worse than that here. Northern New York is horrible, no one lives there, theres out of date towns, so this must be how you make a living out there. Also served in military had ID, defended thecountry, and officer gave me sarcastic laugh and still wrote the ticket.

Comment (10/2004): I had the exact experience, 84 in 65, and no law enforcement courtesy. I will contest, but how will I fare?

Comment (1/2005): Agreed! I just was pulled over on I-87 around this area. I was doing 80 in a 65 and was a sitting duck when I approached the trooper. I had been driving for over 4 hours and was anxious to get to Montreal. The trooper wanted nothing to do with chit-chat except, "License and registration, please." Does anyone know a good lawyer in that town that would appear on my behalf?

Comment (4/2005): hah... save it fellas. The cops and the judges are all in on it. I was stopped for 81 in a 65 at Exit 33. I saw the troopers SITTING on the overpass. I knew they were there and was doing no more than 65. The girl next to me in the beige Corolla didn't and floored it. So I am between her and the cop and I get pulled over as well. I go to court and made such a stink, the trooper dropped the charge to a non-moving violation, but I still had to pay $155.00 US. Crap. The Northway and Northern NY is a rip-off.
