northbound/southbound clearview expressway (I-295). as you go over one of the many rolling hills, the police are waiting for you at the bottom of the hill, especially off of LIE (I-495). can't see them until it's too late. 50mpoh speed limit is too slow for the "straight-like-an-arrow" expressway.
Comment (7/2002): Fair assessment. I agree.
Comment (10/2002): It's always the same officer. He mostly on the northern bound towards the Throgs Neck bridge.
Comment (2/2003): This is soo true...be careful...
Comment (3/2003): I drive for a car service located in the Bayside area. One biggie is southbound, just behind the 26th Avenue overpass. It is the first overpass after you come off the Throgs Neck Bridge and enter Queens.
Comment (3/2003): By FAR, deadliest speedtrap in Queens
Comment (9/2003): Just a thought, but you might want to consider that the "secret" speed limit is around 65. But in any case, if the Clearview is wide open and looks inviting for speed, the highway cops are well aware of it. On a side note, the Clearview has the reputation for some of the most spectacular speed related crashes in New York City.
Comment (10/2003): The speed traps have been there as long as I can remember and are still there at any time. Never speed on the Clearview Expwy!
Comment (11/2003): Mostly northbound.I agree that the "secret" speed limit is 15 MPH more than is posted.Go with the flow and don't cut off or pass cars with excessive speed.
