Watch out for the area of State Route 58 and 254 in the Amherst Area. These cops have nothing better to do than harass people headed to or from Lorain. Coming off of the highway in a nice sports car late at night netted a copper on my rear end not only once, but twice! They follow you into the gas stations running plates and try to nail you on anything they can. Get into Lorain ASAP or take another route, lest you like tickets for having one of your tail lights out. Beware, if they suspect you have something wrong with your car, they WILL FOLLOW YOU INTO LORAIN. Amherst = New Rome.
Comment (11/2005): I disagree! They nabbed two felony drug dealers that had just robbed me. If you have a tail light out they are just making sure you are not doing anything else wrong. If you are then be afraid if not feel safe the police are out their doing there job.
Comment (12/2005): I will tell you that Amherst is not New Rome (that honor belongs to Shefield Village). They do run people's plates in parking lots. That IS A FACT. I think they are bored because there is very little crime in Ohio and they really dont have too much else to do.
Comment (12/2005): Wow, the initial posting is so true! You can sit on the Lorain side of 254 and watch as these cops harass people on the Amherst side. If you listen to the police radio you can hear them run as many plates as possible in order to create revenue for a bored police department.
Comment (6/2006): The Amherst constables do in fact hangout in the shopping center parking lots at the corner of State routes 58 and 254. Amherst is on the South side of route 254 and Lorain is on the North side of the road. I do not know about the Lorain Constables being there. I’ve noticed that the Amherst Constables not only sit in their stationary cars, but do rove around, evidently looking for something other than speeders. Maintain high vigilance and hope you don’t get one of those driving awards!
Comment (7/2006): The police force in Lorain actually have JOBS to do instead of harass motorists. The don't hang out on the north side of 254 and 58 too often.
