When going out of town there is a 35 MPH speed limit that extends way outside of town. The local law enforcement puts the hammer on out of state drives.

Comment (11/2002): 35 MPH no longer extends way outside of town.

Comment (7/2002): Drove through this little town twice a week for a year or so and always after dark you can count on seeing a local running radar, especially after midnight.

Comment (3/2003): I lived in Defiance, Ohio and worked 2nd shift at the GM plant in Ft Wayne and made the drive for a little over a year. If the Antwerp police can't nail you with radar then they will find some other reason to pull you over to ticket you. It could be something as trivial as a burnt out light bulb in a multi bulb tail light. Best advice is to avoid Antwerp but if that's not possible then do no more then 25 MPH within it's city limits.

Comment (08/2008): This is a speed trap. Cops hide around a corner when the speed drops rapidly from 55 to 45 to 35. They bust anyone they can get even though there is a stop light 100 feet around the corner. Its set up to get people, raise revenue not increase safety. Antwerp cops are corrupt.

The posted speed limits drop quickly from 55 to 45 to 35 to 25. The officer will sit in a trailer court, on a side street or behind a B&K Rootbeer sign. There is high rate of truck traffic and the officer will pull truckers off to the side of the road, often impeding the flow of traffic. On one occasion, the Eastbound traffic was blocked during a severe snow storm, by an officer stopping a truck in the traffic lane. This was completely unsafe.
