The alexandria pd will hide anywhere and pull you over long after you have left their jurisdiction. If you are a resident tell them chances are you'll get a warning if not watch out.
Comment (10/2002): There are no lights along the road before or after Alexandria. I was pulled over for going thru town with my brights on. The town was so small that I just forgot to turn them off. They waited until I was a couple miles out of town to pull me over and they took about 20 minutes to check everything out. The town only pays the Police Chief and has a few reserve officers only.
Comment (5/2003): So true. I was followed by an Alexandria cop for about 5 miles out of town before getting pulled over.
Comment (6/2003): I agree with all the above about Alexandria, the caught me on radar on the East side of town. They waited until I drove through the town and was 3 miles west before they pulled me over.
Comment (7/2003): Alexandria has long been a speed trap. This is a principal source of revenue. The posting goes from 35 to 25 in the village-- (after being 55 on the state route). It is best to go three mph below the posted speed limit--or to avoidthe backwater altogether.
Comment (07/2007): 7/2007 Coming into Alexandria from the east on 37 I was given a ticket for doing 45 in a 35 zone. Whereever the police was sitting he jumped out of nowhere and was on my tail like bees on honey. I felt it was almost dangerous the way he jumped on the tail of my SUV. I really feel he put the laser radar on me as I was just slowing down from the 55 mph on 37 coming into Alexandria. Basically they give you no chance to slow down at all and I felt like I was targeted out of a line of traffic. So beware of Alexandria and don\'t even bother going through 37 on that road or you will be paying a $90 ticket. A warning would have sufficed if I really was a little over the speed limit.
Comment (08/2008): 270+ citations issued in July 2008. I was not one. AVOID THIS TOWN!!!

Officers are posted daily near the traffic light or in a turn off by the covered bridge/park. The speed limit quickly drops from 55 to 35 to 25 to 20. I drive through twice a day and it is a rare occaision not to see someone pulled over. Locals know and go extra slow, but if you are from out of town and not familiar with the area, watch out.

The village speed limit is 35 MPH as you enter Alexandria and adequate warning is given of that. However there is a 350 foot zone of 25 MPH which is not well marked either side of the only traffic light.
