The speed limit signs reduce fast coming into town and if you aren't at or below that speed when you reach the sign (no tolerance), you get a ticket. Speed limit in town is a 25 mph crawl and they love the ego trip of giving tickets. This is a great money maker for this town as the tickets are $102 minimum. I get the impression since they have a gun and a badge, they think they are Dick Tracey.

Comment (6/2003): They are police officers...just seems like they are being mean because you broke the law. There is absolutely nothing you can say to right a wrong.

Comment (6/2003): The information sheet given to violators lists 55 assorted fines such as:1)Def eqp $82, 2)Following to close $67, 3)Public Nuisance $82 4)unlaw assy$124, 5) any viol not listed $67, 6)improper backing $67, 7) careless driving$82. If you can get through this town without a ticket it would be a miracle.Lots of luck if you try it.

Comment (6/2003): I love to see people being pulled over. People need to slow down. There is ABSOLUTELY not reason to speed.

Comment (4/2004): not only does the speed limit decrease dramatically, the radar can go through 3 different speed zones at one time, but the ticket will be for the lowest speed zone (25mph) & guess what??? the last part of the 35 & all of the 25 west of town are in a school zone (the school zone goes further for the incoming traffic - farthest from the school- than for the outbound traffic). still think you were going too fast? by the way the other two ways out of town are hwy 78 n & s & there are places the cops sit where the radar will go through at least 2 different speed zones! we live here and are pulled over fairly regularly, not using turn signal quick enough, etc. anybody have any ideas or legal info to start a class action suit against this very small town that is in traffic ticket business?

Comment (4/2004): Achille has 400 people and 3 full time cops. Not long ago 2 were dismissed. Wonder why? Have your insurance card with you. They say if you bring it in they will take off that fine. But if you read the fine print on the ticket it reads must be brought in within 24 hours. If not 100+ dollar fine. It is also all in- house. The money never leaves the town. Officers are paid on a percentage basis.

Comment (8/2004): The state gives a person 48 hours to provide proof of insurance to the department issuing you a citation for no insurance. There is no fine print on any ticket concerning any violation that you can be cited for. i am a police officer and i have to agree with you guys that Achille is VERY, VERY strict on there speed enforcement. As far as all of the money from fines staying "in house", i have to disagree. For every ticket that a department writes, they have to send a certain amount to the state to provide funding for schools and road improvements.

Comment (11/2004): Watch out near the cemetary coming into town when your headed South. And the post office and store in the middle part of town, and around the school they like to hang out in all these places.

35mph posted just a few yards from 45mph, not enough time/space to slow without braking; township has less than 200 people, no traffic; speed trap is major source of income.

Speed drops from 65 to 55 to 45 to 35 in short time. 35mph sign is located on curve where drivers attention is focused elsewhere. Buildings along hwy are sparse. No reason to believe speed limit should be 35. Police park around curve.

Coming into town the 35 MPH sign was down and it went from 45 to 25. 25 MPH sign is about 3 feet tall to the top of the sign. Didn't even notice it when I drove by. Got a ticket for 35 in a 25. Fight it over the fact that the sign does not meet DOT regulations for height from pavement level which is 7 feet to the bottom of the sign.
