The officers sit at the edge of town down in the ditch. There is no dense housing so you think you are safely out of town. Population is 490. There are more than 5 police officers and nice looking cars with state of the art radar. The speed limit drops three times out west of town in about a four block distance. All of this paid for with our tax dollars thru federal funding. And the cost of the citations??? $90.00 Where is our government?? Who is supposed to protect us from legalized theivery.
Comment (12/2002): Amber has one (1) paid police officer. A significant amount of attention is paid to the highway running through town because the towns is so small. It's all police abuse until one of those trucks hits someone, then "where were the police?"
Comment (12/2002): If thae people traveling through Amber Oklahoma will just pay attention they wont have to pay the fine. I go through ther on a regular basis and all the sighns are clearly marked and there is enough time to slow doun. If you are doing 70 mph like most people coming into town you wont be able to slow doun fast enough and you will get a speeding ticket. In my opinion you would deserve it too.
Comment (2/2003): There may be one paid police officer. I am just guessing the others are doing it for kicks. They change officers like most people change socks. Those in charge of hiring and firing have no idea the damage done to this small town. Why does the one policeman need 2 cars to drive? How much policing does 490 people need? Most that I have met is law abiding citizens. Though I have noticed not near as bad as it has been. I think the state should put a sign 1 mile on either side of town announcing speed trap because you don't know who they will put in next to take your money!
Comment (10/2003): Yea, this is a common problem among Oklahoma municipalities. Take the revenue out of traffic control (they can take points off the driver license only) and you'll see how fast they disappear off the main roads. 'Course Buba still might like to flex his muscles (authority) once in awhile. He's probably not getting paid much so the authority and intimidation he uses against the drivers gives him his "high". I know one officer who is retired in (Bixby) who volunteers as a cop (no pay), it's true. In other words he writes tickets as a hobby. Different strokes for different folks. Follow the money.
