The town of Arcadia is cut by Route 66, and occupies approximately 1 mile of the highway. Upon entering the town the speed limit drops from 65 to 25 mph in about 1/4 of a mile. Cops are always rampant, but concentrations have seen the ENTIRE Arcadia police force of 6 cruisers working the 1 mile stretch.

Comment (12/2002): The speed limit drops from 55 to 35, not 65 to 25. The citizens who live in Arcadia complain about people speeding through town. If you lived there, you would not someone flying through your town either. If you see the posted speed limit then slow down. How can it be a speed trap if you know ahead of time what the speed is posted. You are only upset because you got caught speeding and someone else didnot. How about ecepting responsibility for your actions and stop trying to blame it on someone else.

Comment (12/2002): I'm a officer for a department near Arcadia and they pulled me over and gave me a talking to about going 4 miles over the speed limit and I was in uniform going to work. They told me don't ever come through here like that again.

Comment (12/2002): As a correction to the information about Arcadia, OK, but not in defence of them, please be aware that the speed limit drops from 55 to 35 NOT 65 to 25. The maximum speed on Hwy 66 in Oklahoma County is 55.

Comment (12/2002): The speed limit on Route 66 is not 65MPH it is 55MPH. The speed limit in Arcadia is normally 45 MPH, a 10 MPH drop in side there town which is only 2 lanes. With road construction in the area the speed limit was lowered to 35MPH, with many posted signs. I do not live in or near Arcadia, and have not recieved a speeding ticket. Why? because I see the speed limit signs and do the posted speed limit.

Comment (1/2003): Arcadia is now a part of Edmond, Oklahoma and is subject to their rules.

Comment (8/2002): city attorney, city police chief, nor the judge knew the appropriate law stating you cannot, in the state of OK, be cited double in a work zone without workers being present. As of June, 2002 they are now aware. How many people did the charge double? with no workers present.

Comment (2/2003): Arcadia is NOT a part of Edmond, although it is completely surrounded by Edmond.

Comment (2/2003): I most usually drive about 5 over on OK Highways and Interstates and in 26 years on the road have NEVER been pulled over for it. I've seen speed traps in several small towns, but have never seen one on the Interstate. Gee, 18 mph over? Yes, I'd give a ticket too. If you come to our state, have the courtesy drive like there are others on the road, and almost 20 over is just rude and stupid.

Comment (2/2003): These guys are so hardcore and dtermined to get your money that there were two officers out on Christmas morning when there was little or NO traffic. I have been stopped for going 3 miles and hour over the limit. They definitly have a kangaroo court. Went to contest a ticket and there were more people waiting for traffic court than the population of the ENTIRE TOWN.

Comment (2/2003): My friend Del (53) was driving through Arcadia when he was ticketed 325.00 for going 46 in a 45 in an un-populated construction zone. Now Del drives a 38 year old car whose speedometer is not pinpoint accurate. He also has a moral belief that resistance to authority is resisitance to God (I do not share that theory), and he therefore makes a point to stay BELOW the posted speed limit. This and other such occurances have prompted myself and many others to avoid Arcadia at all costs. If the shady cops turn the place into a derelict ghost town it would be difficult to wipe the grin off my face.

Comment (2/2003): If all of you people obey the speed limit and know what to look for then what are you doing on this site, Shut-up and quit complaining about it. 65 to 25 or not this is just a small town tiring to get money.

On the outskirts of town there is a posting, lowering the speed limit from 55 to 45. A little further on there is a second 45 posting (estimate that the second posting is 1/3 mile of the first). The first posting does indicate that it is "strictly" enforced but feel that it is located in a position that makes it easy to overlook. Am sure that motorists are clocked on radar between the two signs. Why do they even bother to post a second sign? It appears that the officer is approaching from the opposite direction and if you overlook the first sign they immediately make a U-turn, hit their lights, and ticket you.

Comment (2/2003): If all of you people obey the speed limit and know what to look for then what are you doing on this site, Shut-up and quit complaining about it. 65 to 25 or not this is just a small town tiring to get money.

I live near Arcadia and go through the town several times each week. There are 13 cops in this one square mile town. They are definately dirty. A friend of mine was stopped with a tag that had been expired for a few days. He had purchased the new tag/sticker and it was in his truck, but he had not yet put it on. The cop was going to tow his vehicle anyway. It was about two minutes from the time he was stopped until the wrecker arrived (can you say sham). He protested and was able to get out of the ticket for all the money he had on him - about $80 cash (can you say shake down). The cops in this town were recently the subject of a Daily Oklahoman article due to their tactics. The OSBI or FBI should do some kind of an undercover investigation on these crooks.
