I assume that Oklahoma police uses Airplane starting form the south border of Oklahoma state. I was "cought" doing 88 in a 70 zone. I was coming from Texas and they cought me right after I crossed Red River which is the border between Texas and Oklahoma.

Comment (11/2002): Uhhhh, yes it is a speed trap! If people were not speeding to start with, a speed trap could not exist. Don't they have schools in Oklahoma?

Comment (12/2002): You must have gotten stopped and cited by the Oklahoma Highyway patrol, not an Ardmore officer. They rarely work I-35.

Comment (12/2002): Anyone should know that if you just drive the speed limit and obey the law the speed traps would be out of business. Duh, they can't just make up reasons to give you a ticket. You have to give them an excuse.

Comment (12/2002): From what I have heard, there is a trooper assigned specifically to the Ardmore-to-Texas part of I35 so unless he is eating at Ponders, you will more than likely pass an OHP somewhere in that stretch of interstate.

Comment (12/2002): Duh back at you, Yes, we have schools in Oklahoma. You need assess the "speed trap" criteria once again smart guy. Speed is only one of several factors necessary for the use of the title. 88 in a 70 is illegal no matter where you live. I should know. I'm a former police officer (traffic) and now teach motor vehicle law at the university level (Ph.D.).

Comment (12/2002): Well, Texan, perhaps it isn't so much a matter of being able to read as it is of being able to comprehend. If you've read any of these other messages, you'll see deliberate attempts, such as going from 65 to 25 in less time than a car can slow down.

Comment (12/2002): oklahoma is one of the worst speed traps in the united states a state trooper flipped around on the highway for going 76 m.p.h in a 70 m.p.h zone and followed me for several miles. If I were a state trooper i would let you get by with 82-83 m.p.h in a 70 m.p.h zone.

Comment (1/2003): That second comment is just stupid, and entries like this one defeat the purpose of this site. There is no trap! 70 is the limit on Oklahoma interstates and 75-76 will usually not rate a stop.

Comment (1/2003): From the Red River through the Arbuckles has always had a great deal of attention to the Oklahoma Highway patrol. However, plane, radar or whatever, 88 will get a ticket in the Oklahoma highway system anywhere.

Comment (10/2002): Well, you know what? YOU WERE SPEEDING! So, guess what? It isn't a speed trap. I travel this road at least every 2 weeks and if you follow the law you don't get stopped. The speed limit doesn't change until you get into Norman or road construction, so even for a Texan it shouldn't be that hard to follow.

Comment (2/2003): 88 in a 70 mph zone is speeding! How can you complain about that? Oklahoma will generally give you 5mph on the interstate at least. But to me, 88 is somewhat flagrant so take your lumps and move on.

Comment (3/2003): I ride allmost every road in the state of Oklahoma and I don't get tickets. The Hiway Patrol lets you get by with about 3-5 mph over. I have driven by copps with my cruise set at 75 mph and have never gotten stopped. This is in 20000 plus on state hiways. We avrage about 10000 miles a year on our bike. (GOLDWING)

Comment (2/2003): I travel this section of road twice per week. I am glad enforcement is high, when wet the road is very slick due to wear and age, it is also very rough in areas. OK is working on replacing the bad sections, but it will take time.

Comment (6/2003): I have passed OHP cars going 90 to almost 100 mph on my motorcycle before on I-35 between the Red River and The arbuckels and was not stopped. The only place I know that will writ you up for 2 over is Peidmont Ok. just west of Edmond Ok. And they cut you no slack and the fines are BIG.....

There was obviously a planned event to bust speeders heading North on I-35. Speed was being detected via airplane (my radar detector didn't go off at all) and patrol cars flagging people down as they came by them (even if you were travelling well within the posted speed limits by that time)

Traveling Southbound on Hwy 77 into Ardmore right before the stoplight at Veteran's Blvd, the speed zone changes from 50mph to 40mph. This wouldn't be a problem except that the speed limit sign is partially obstructed by trees and cannot be readily seen until you are right on it. There is a cop with a serious attitude that waits in a motel parking lot just after the speed change and stop as many as he can. Stay under 40, but KNOW HOW FAST YOU ARE GOING! He pulled my wife over the other day at this intersection doing 37 in a 40 and tried to bully her (obviously he didn't know my wife). He's not there all the time, but often.
