Speed limit on Hwy 9 decreases from 65 to 25 in a very short distance. Blanchard Police will prey on out of state plates.
Comment (1/2003): It is definitely a speed trap! I travel there from Norman all the time and it is seriously scary to be in or near Blanchard after dark. The police will pull you over for anything.
Comment (1/2003): My brother was actually arrested in Blanchard, with several of his friends. The arresting officer at first refused to tell them why. Later, after he had them in his cruiser, he said, "So, you boys thought you'd come into my town and do a little thieving?" That accusation really blew their minds. All were upstanding professionals: one was an M.D., another a programmer, etc. Anyway, to make a long story short, they sued Blanchard and won. Each of them walked away with a few thousand dollars. The cop, it turned out, had been fired from a series of police jobs in various small towns. He was canned yet again.
Comment (12/2002): Hwy 9 does not go through Blanchard first of all. The speed limit signs are as big as a trunk lid on a car and clearly visible, so if you get caught it's your fault. Look at the statistics on high speed traffic accidents just becuase someone was in a hurry.
Comment (12/2002): AS you're heading north out of Blanchard on the highway that heads to Norman, speed limits increases in small increments several times until you reach 65 MPH. If you're doing 65 in the space between the 50 and 65, per say, you can be ticketed.
Comment (12/2002): I grew up in this area, though have since moved away. Everyone knows that this whole town is a speed trap! They will ticket you for anything they can think of. I had a friend in high school whose mom got a ticket for not having her lights on at dusk. She had to take the newspaper with her to court to prove what time the sunset was that day, in order to get out of this ridiculous ticket. The dumbest thing was that the officer who stopped her, didn't have his headlights on either!
Comment (12/2002): I drive my vehicle approx 85000 miles per year. I drive through Blanchard almost daily. You have got very careful entering or leaving the west edge of town.
Comment (12/2002): No.1 Hwy 9 does NOT run through Blanchard. Hwy 62 does. The area in which you are refuring to go's past the elementry school. All you have to do to avoid a ticket in this town is pay attention to the signs and not be in such a big hurry!
Comment (10/2002): No way I was speeding at 10:30 pm in this same spot, but I got a ticket anyway. Two cars were used and one or the other "officers" had his hand on his gun at all times. They told me I reeked of alcohol even though I had had only one drink a few hours earlier and passed their field sobriety test. Watch yourselves there.
Comment (1/2003): I grew up in this town played football and graduated from there and never once recieved a ticket for speeding. My father on the other hand has been caught several time comming into town, but whats really interesting is that where the fourlane converges to meet back into a two lane road the police vehicle is in the middle of the road in the dead space in front of the ag barn(where the median would be if it continued on). I have on many occassions been driveing home late at night and not notice that there was a vehicle, with no lights on at all, there until I was already on top of it, and it scares the crap out of you, so how safe are they?
Comment (1/2003): They remember you, too. I got a ticket once for speeding and the cop remembered my car as I passed through regularly. He pulled me over two more times for nothing exceot checking up on me not being drunk. My wife drove my car once and the same officer pulled next to her at the gas station, asd as she rolled down the window to see what he wanted, he stated, "I thought you were someone else." Pretty rotten guy, shame on Blanchard.
Comment (2/2003): I do agree that you need to be careful when passing through Blanchard. They will definately pull you over at the drop of a hat. However, when you're coming in from the direction of Norman on Hwy 62 (not 9!) The speed liming reduces gradually with PLENTY of time to slow down. It drops from 65 to 55 to 45, to 35 and takes almost half-a-mile to do it. I see dip-sticks blasting through there DAILY ignoring them and then, Oh My! Surprise!, they get a ticket. I have traveled through that section between 2 and 4 times a DAY weekdays for 5 years and have NEVER been ticketed because I SLOW DOWN. It's not Rocket Science, just look at the GREAT BIG SIGNS!
Comment (2/2003): I, like many others grew up in blanchard. Before I left that hole in the ground, I was a fireman. I was En Route to an fire, not in Blanchard, but reguardless, I was responding to an fire where my help was desperately needed! I was doing 8 mile over the limit on an country rod that i could clearly see, I was pulled over, delayed, and ticketed. My presence at the scene of the fire i was en route to made a huge difference. I cannot go into detail by law, but lets just say if the officer would have simply let me go after being informed of my situation, I could have helped a lot more!

Speed Limits typical for a speed trap 65,55,45,35,25. They Sit in unmarked black Ford SUV all Hours or White Sedans, at the 35 limit sign at all hours. There is one light in this small town and 7 police Car's. They also have been known to pull cars over far out of there city limits. Watch your speed, everyone that has visted me in Blanchard from Oklahoma City has been pulled over for doing 5 miles over speed limit, 15 of my friends have gotten tickets.

Blanchard Oklahoma rural town (but growing quickly): Speed limits are fair they go right through the middle of town,(65 through 25 in about 150 yards)however local residents do not receive ticket. Spend some time driving through like I do every day. Locals will pass you up even in the 35 to 25 mph zone, and turn it to their residential areas. I've had them pass me up while I'm doing the exact speed limit right in front of a police unit running radar.
