Speed limit signs are well posted but you had better pay attention. They have a Sheriff and a young deputy that take turns patrolling from one end of town or the other, and they do like writing tickets. It appears that this is a chief source of revenue for this small town. If you wind up in court, don't expect a fair shake (the fines are high) and don't think they are interested in the truth or justice, they are not. It's your word against theirs and they say what they want. Ticket are not limited to speeding, anything will get you stopped. BEWARE !

Comment (12/2002): I understand receiving a speeding ticket is never fun, but if the driver deserves it bite the bullet and move on. As for the previous comment, I see no reason why a deputy sheriff and sheriff would be writing tickets for this town. the local sheriff's department are not to enforce city ordinances nor would this town receive any revenue. County agencies receive about 10 - 15 dollars per ticket, the rest is distributed to da's office and the state. So next time you talk about truth and fairness do some research first and have the facts straight.

Comment (5/2002): Frequent roadblocks in this area also, from Hwy 62 junction in Ft. Gibson to Braggs.

Comment (11/2003): Yea, I agree with the previous post only I'm not sure if the fine goes to the local jurisdiction if the ticket is written in that jurisdiction This would also probably apply to a OHP stop. You make a very valid point on sheriff traffic stops. I rarely see a County Officer stop somebody around here, even in the county. I have a lot more respect for them then I do city/town cops for this very reason. If I was stopped by a county deputy I would consider it a serious infraction and probably take it seriously as opposed to the local Barney Fife want-a-be's and their frivols traffic stops. As correctly stated in the previous post the Sheriff's department gets very little money from a traffic stop and therefore there is no incentive to make frivols traffic stops. This is what contrasts a county jurisdiction from a municipal jurisdiction. This is at my core belief that if all jurisdictions were treated in the same manner as the Sheriff's department were would solve much of this speed trap business.

Comment (12/2003): They are not Sherriffs Office, they are Braggs own Police. They let up a little in the winter but summer is hell.

Comment (02/2008): I just recieved a speeding ticket today going 56 in a 35. Like the comment above, Me and my family were \"out of towners\" enjoying the Green Leaf State Park and on our way back to Tulsa going through Braggs I was pulled over. The officer was set up at the first businees parking lot as you come into town and was not visable until I got about 300 feet away due to trees and signage. I must have not seen the speed limit sign coming into town and continued with my pace. I was applying my brake like a normal driver would as they enter the edge of a small town, but I guess it was too late. The part that stings me is the fact that the officer had no dialog with me, he just told me my infraction, grabbed my licence and insurance, and about 10 minutes later I recieved the ticket and a comment to \"Have a nice day\". No asking where I\'ve been, where I was going, and no coaching on to slow down next time, just \"Have a nice day\". To top it off, the town of Braggs on a beutiful saturday at 4pm was completly dead...who is this small town cop protecting by giving me a $202 fine. Why don\'t you go bust a meth house out in the country or something... Speed traps are unethical and no cop should be able to setup at the edge of town hidden, there should be a law that they setup in the middle of town visable to oncoming traffic and catch the speeders that really have the potential of inflicting harm on citizens. Oh wait, that would mean that they would not be able to write 90% of their tickets because a visable cop would actually detour speeders to slow down...huh what a concept. This maybe hard to believe and its not bragging either, but I have been pulled over over 50 times with about 15 of those being tickets. You may say that I deserve the ticket, but as an experienced \"pulled over person\" I say this is unethical and needs to stop now.

Highway speed drops suddenly from 55mph to 35mph when entering small town for about 1 mile. Enforcement is exploitive and people going to and from nearby Greenleaf State Park using this route are especially targeted.
