The police officers in checotah have hired a bunch of new young officers who love to write every person they see some knid of peice of paper. out of town or a resident of the city makes no differance. The officers also use k-9's and will search most out of town traffic and will stop you for somthing no more important than a tag light so obeying the speed limit will only prolong the misery. The county sheriff's office and O.H.P. also work this city heavily so if your trip takes you through this town get ready you will probably be oulled over.
Comment (12/2002): I'm a Checotah resident and can verify this fact. They have been writing several tickets lately, mostly on I-40, but a few elsewhere. I'm a college student and don't know how often this goes on, but my family has been keeping me up to date. Watch out on I-40 around Checotah, they'll nail ya.
Comment (12/2002): Having lived in the city for over 20 years, I've noticed that in the last 4-5 years, there has been more enforcement of the speed limits. I know of several people that have been stopped, but few have received tickets. Most of them are made aware of the speed zone either by a verbal or written warning. Our high school and 4-6th grade school are both on a highway and they do not run bus routes in town. Kudos to the officers for the enforcement of these speed zones. Shame on you violators for complaining!
Comment (1/2003): the officers there tell everyone they are taking drugs off of the streets of checotah by working the interstate and highway 69 when in fact the people that they have arrested has never resided in checotah or mcintosh county. how can they justify being on the highway and neglecting all the homes as well as the business. a former officer admitted they doctor the crime reports to make it look as if they have a low crime rate which in fact it worse than it has been in the past with former chiefs and employees
Comment (1/2003): The States for the OSBI show the crime rate is down in Checotah. Drug trafficing is at an all time high in the nation. Checotah PD, OHP, and the county have partnered together to help stop the traffic flow of drugs to children by stopping the those who traffic across our nation. The officers have another major issue to deal with and that is 2 schools located on major highways. My hats off to those officers that place the safety of our students above the motoring public. By stopping those individuals with defective cars or speeding through these areas lessens the chance of one of the students being killed in a traffic related accident. I have been a resident in the Checotah area for the past 30 years and have only been stopped by an officer when I was deserving of being stopped. I wonder if the person posting here has an agenda against the officers or just needs to follow the traffic laws.
Comment (7/2002): The fine officers of Checotah are so busy. They patrol the highway more than the city limits. Your house may be robbed. Your bussiness may be vandelized. But you will never see a shortage of seized property and money from the highways. (U.S. 69 & I40)
Comment (1/2003): Yes the drug traffic is at an all time high so why are we not trying to do something about it. Its so bad in the city limits that you cant go to the grocery store without seeing people in the parking lot making sales. I know this to be true since I saw it with my own eyes. Sure the statistics are down concerning the crime rate. A former supervisor told that they doctor what is turned in to the OSBI to make them look good. Its like in oneof the comments that was made about never being a shortage of siezed property or seized durg money at the local Police department. One business in town recently got broke in to at around 1:00 am in the morning and was not discovered by the local police. A paper carrier called it in. Had the business owner no had security cameras in place, they would not have caught the burglars and got his stuff back. If this is a good job then a suggest citizens of Checotah get a concealed carry because the local police is too busy to mess with us
Comment (1/2003): I wonder why these negative comments are always attributed to what "former" officer and employees say? I wonder why they are "former" employees. There are more drug arrests being made in town now more than has ever been made before and I think the Police Department is doing a good job. Keep up the good work.
Comment (07/2008): I drive from sallisaw toward Checotah 3 x\'s a wk. I KNOW that the OHP is full of themselves, why don\'t they obey the speed limit? I set my cruise and they whiz by, out of sight in seconds. I hope your Daddy doesn\'t work in the construction zones because the fuzz might kill him, they DO NOT obey ANY LAWS. Take care of your life and slow down, if you don\'t get killed driving like a maniac then when they pull you over you KNOW that you will be tazed, kicked or beaten and all you have to do is not be fast enough to obey their command. People carry video camera\'s because it could be you they assault, verbal abuse. You cannot trust the police, if you watch t.v. or listen to the news you know this for a fact. THEY HARM innocent people.
