While not a true speed trap in that they don't take advantage of sudden changes or generate tons of cash, I had an OHP officer make about a dozen errors on one ticket and then the assistant DA lied to me in order to try to shore up the case. Hopefully, he's retired by now.

Comment (11/2002): If he was smart enough to avoid such mistakes, he wouldn't be a trooper anyway. Trooper jobs are reserved for control freaks with relatively low mental aptitude.

Comment (11/2002): If you think you can do better wont you goto to the office of personal management in oklahoma city and fill out an application for oklahoma highway patrol and see if you are smart enough to be a trooper, ya think you can pass the written test and physical training?

Comment (12/2002): Who are you going to be complaining to when we are scraping your wife, child or loved one off of the road? The speed limit is there for a reason. For YOUR safety!

Comment (12/2002): I guess Troopers are only human, they do make mistakes after all. But I can see were they could make mistakes having to deal with those who think they know every law and that they do not speed or anything else in that case. If you don't want a ticket, don't speed. It is truly tht plain and simple. Obey the laws and you are fine!

Comment (9/2002): While OHP Troopers, or Trooper in Beaver County is very moderate in his enforcement. He makes very few mistakes. Especially on simple tickets. By the way, the Asst. District Attorney IS leaving due to being voted out by the citizens in this district. January will be his last. But, thanks for taking the time to point out errors. I'll be sure and relay the sidewalk lawyer errors to the Trooper.

Comment (1/2003): In the above comment, you'll notice the commentor DID state that it wasn't a true speed trap. I don't know why people get so offended. You would be upset if the errors were made and you were the one to pay for it also. While I believe most cops are good and have good intentions, I do live in Oklahoma. Which means I have had my share of being pulled over for no reason and then lied to about the reason in the first place. I might add that everytime it has happened, I have been going thru a small town. So the comment that if you follow all the laws, you won't have anything to worry about is not true. There are police officers who have agendas (like the city pushing them to write tickets, etc.)and there are police who just plain have power trip problems. I believe these cops are a minority by far, but to make the comment that it's plain and simple, don't break the law and you won't get stopped is an affront to the law-abiding citizens who have been harrassed for no reason at all.

Comment (10/2003): Well, I think the solution to all this small town speed trap business is to bypass them with new road and not allow them to annex it. If there is such a safety problem as they always portray it, then lets accommodate them and bypass them. Watch them squall as many of them did when the Interstate highway system was built. All that terrible traffic was gone and so went the economy right along with it. Many of these small towns dried up and blew away. Small towns….. be careful what you wish for.

For example, at the time of the citation, I was in Colorado and had proof of that. I was vindicated because I won the case. Further, as indicated above, I also got some very sweet revenge. "Obey the laws and you are fine!" Tell that to Greg Wilhoit. (look him up at www.google.com)

Comment (11/2003): ". . . But, thanks for taking the time to point out errors. I'll be sure and relay the sidewalk lawyer errors to the Trooper." Don't bother. He's already heard from the governor's office. As I pointed out to then Governor Bellmon, the consequences of the troopers errors and arrogance, coupled with the outright lie by the Asst. District Attorney, were severe, costing the state more than ten million in wages and taxes lost when I moved a manufacturing plant out of Oklahoma to Texas. It took me several years but revenge was sweet.

Comment (11/2003): "Who are you going to be complaining to when we are scraping your wife, child or loved one off of the road? The speed limit is there for a reason. For YOUR safety!" That is not even remotely true. The benchmarks of traffic safety act independently of speed limits and speed enforcement. Average speeds have risen for over 80 years and the fatality rate has declined during that same period. Also, unless you are a paramedic or the county coroner, you don't "scrape" anybody off the pavement.

Comment (2/2004): I think the true minority are the troopers and officers who "do" a good job and have to put up with those who "do not"! I know of several that are truly put out with the whole system. They know who the bad ones are, but those are the ones that get promoted. If they have not already been promoted, they are in the little "club" and are taken care of. The ones who are the good officers, catch hell if they say anything contrary to the program. I know of one OHP officer who got tired of the bs and started writing tickets to speeding officers of other departments. He caught hell but knew what was right and they did not deter him from doing his job. In fact, there were several OHP officers in the Enid office who would write government officials all the time. They are the true heros. But have not seen them in a while. Must have got tired of the system and quit! I have spoken to one and he is really put out because there is no one to talk to. No one is there to represent them, the good ones. I bet if one made a movie or wrote a book, it would be very interesting.
