Traveling east out of Beggs on Highway 16, speed limit says 65 mph, however the opposite side of the highway says 55 mph, officer sits in the trees below the hill and will get you for going 65 which is what the signs says as you travel east towards 75 , but he will get you for going over 55 mph which is what the sign says on the opposite side of the highway.

Comment (2/2003): here is how it is. the 55 and the 65 signs are directly across from each other. second, going east on hwy 16 it is 55 UNTIL the 65mph SIGN. third, the officer sits west of both the 55mph AND 65mph signs on THE SIDE OF THE ROAD not in the trees, and clocks motorists in the 55mph zone who are traveling east anticipating the 65mph sign, accelerate too quickly while still in the 55mph zone. the speedlimit DOES NOT CHANGE UNTIL YOU REACH THE SIGN. i am a BEGGS police officer, so just remember this. thank you and drive CAREFULLY.

Comment (6/2003): If you get that picky about getting up to 65 just before you reach the sign, you will see the number of people steer away from your town and that will reduce the amount of outside dollars coming into your town. I got a ticket in Piedmont for a few miles over in a deserted area, and since then I quit stopping in town to buy things and we stopped coming through on weekend motorcycle rides and stopping to spend money. Our loss or yours? Dangerous drivers should be stopped, but those going a few miles over is just ridiculous. Just my opinion.

Speed sign that shows speed to be 55 is covered by branches and the Beggs Police Department hides in a place that he can immediately get behind a person who does not know the sign is there.
