Carlton Oregon has several sections of "two lane" with different posted speeds for opposite directions on the same section of road. The hope is you will either be confused or disregard this obviously worthless rule. And they are waiting.

City speed limit sign are easy to miss and you must slow immediately from 55mph. The traffic court is always full. A local wine magazine chided the city for this speedtrap.

The Carlton speed trap is well known to the locals who avoid the main road or drive very cautiously. The speed limit is 25 mph and you will get a ticket for 28 mph or over. The speed limit sign is very easy to miss. I live near Carlton and I have been a victim of this trap twice now. Every time I drive through Carlton I see the police writing tickets. The traffic court is always full. Installing speed bumps, and a larger speed limit sign would solve the problem, but the town is only interested in the money and not public safety. I now boycott all Carlton businesses.
