Comment (7/2002): The Oregon State Police have a station in Columbia City. A number of years ago, the speed limit on U.S. 30 through town was reduced from 55 to 45. At the time, this was the only passing lane on 30 between St. Helens (a couple of miles to the south, i.e., toward Portland) and Rainier (about 15 miles north, i.e., toward Astoria). I don't know if things have changed since 30 was widened to four lanes from Warren through St. Helens and Columbia City and on toward Deer Island.
