For years, the city of Pawtucket has used speed traps as a means to gain revenue. This is a widely known practice. Most motorists who drive in this area know "you don't speed in Pawtucket" even though many of their roads are industrial highways with little traffic and residential areas. Pawtucket receives most of its funding for its schools from the state and is generally an under-funded community. Everyone I know has received at least one speeding ticket from this city. They go so far as to post a 25mph on a street that changes halfway into another city where the limit is suddenly 35! (Pawtucket Avenue into East Providence).

There are three main spots that the Pawtucket Police hide on School St. The first two are after the 2nd traffic light when you get off of 95 North. They either hide on the left on Chestnut St. (where they are blocked by a low thick tree)or on the right in the Medical Center Parking lot. The third spot is about 1/2 mile up the road, the road bears to the right and there are tennis courts on the right hand side (10ft chain link fence) they hide in a little parking lot right after the courts where there is a traffic light. These three spots helped School St. in Pawtucket earn the second most finacial grossing speed trap in the COUNTRY!

This is definately one of the most common speed traps. Many of my co-workers have been tagged on this road. During the school year, policemen just sit there all day directly across from the school and fire department. They'll get ya every time!

Police like to sit on the right and left side of this street just after number 500 Prospect St. They have good hiding spots where they can't be seen until you are on top of them. The limit is posted at 25 and if you are doing anything over 30 they will nail you.

Cops hide in parking lot of night club on right hand side of road. They catch you as you accelerate to enter Rte. 95. Spped limit is only 25MPH here. Pawtucket is well known for their money making speed tickets. They have their own Municipal Court, which gets them a higher percentage of the money. If they are really out to encourage public safety, why are they only out on beautiful sunny days and not rainy more dangerous ones?

Police patrol car is on the Division St. side entrance/exit for the McCoy Stadium parking lot, right behind the tall hedges in entrance of the parking lot, which makes police car hard to see at night with only parking lights on.

This trap is going south on Broadway, after you pass over the I-95 bridge. This section opens up from one lane to two lanes then three. You would think the speed limit would be at least 30mph, but it is 25mph. They sit on either side of the road right near D'anglelo's. Pawtucket cops are very sneaky, standing off the side of the road hiding behind/beside cars with hand radar.

Speedtrap is in Slater Park. Driving in the park along the one-way road that runs along the pond, there is a hill. The speed limit is not posted. As you accelerate to go over the hill you will immediatly see one or more police cruisers at the bottom. They will not be using radar but will be 'visually' checking for speeders. The officer(s) are standing outside their cars and walk into the road to stop vehicles. The first time I was stopped and given a warning and told the limit was 15 mph and that in the future they will be giving tickets. The speed limit is posted about 200' down the road after you have already been stopped.

After you pass the Beveridge Hill Ave. intersection on Prospect St. you will see the speed limit drop to 25. You will enter a clearing with some industrial buildings with empty parking lots down the road. Police hide out in these lots and off to some side streets, any time of day, stopping anyone doing anything over 25. The cops tend to move around to different streets and parking lots so you never know where they're hiding. Keep it under 25 from Beveridge Hill Ave. to the downtown area and you should be okay.

Cops hide on different side streets along Central Ave. Sometimes they sit in a cruiser radaring and other times they get out and find a place to hide on foot. Speed limit is 25 along all of Central Ave. Be careful in general while in Pawtucket - if its a 25 it's most likely a speedtrap.

Cops park on side street (usually Maryland Ave.) but can be any, climb out of car and sight people, then flag them down for their "contribution" to the city. The road is straight/level and with a limit so low (25) it's easy to go 30 or 35. They will stop you for doing 30...

The speed limit on this road is 25 mph, however, there is a school zone with one speed limit sign for 20 mph that is behind a tree and not clearly visible (the school also looks more like a church than a school). Police only pull over traffic heading away from Mineral Spring (as the sign is clearly visible in the opposite direction). This trap seems to occur primarily in the Spring when it starts to get warm out. Many people are pulled over here.
