Unmarked Fords and Camaros and motorcycles - they don't have many truly MARKED cars. They prefer to trap speeders than to slow them down with the sight of a marked car. The name of the game should be "PREVENTION & EDUCATION" not scratch the pad. Unmarked card do not do this. They just "catch" speeders. Actually adding to the overall problem.
Comment (5/2003): The education part is the sign on the side of the road... the one with the two digits and "MPH" on it. Try going that speed sometime. As for unmarked cars this is a no brainer... if a cop has to be visible to babysit you and "prevent" you from speeding, then catch a cab to the DMV and turn your drivers license in. You dont need to be on the road.
Comment (9/2003): I travel 5-9 mph above the posted speed limit on I-26 and I-526 daily and have never had a problem. They have changed the speed limit on the Hwy 52 connector from 55 to 45 recently, probably due to the construction site. I must say that it was a bother to get used to, but on my way in this a.m. I nearly hit a worker who stepped too close into the Hwy. The speed limit was probably a benefit to making the quick maneuver avoiding a tragedy. I do have a comment though. I consider myself a driver with extremely good luck. I have not been ticketed since 1990 for any offense, and actually beat that one in court. I attribute the luck to travelling at reasonable speeds and concentrating on the drive. I was extremely disappointed in an officer in an unmarked vehicle of the N.Charleston Police Dept. or S.C.H.P. (couldn't tell for sure) last week though. I watched a "crotch-rocketed motorcyclist" (I've been a real one since 1974)while we were all waiting on the long light change, at the last signal before the southbound 52/52 Connector split, this pin-head leaves the light up on his rear wheel for about 150 yds, then flies down 52 at what I'm sure was no less than 80 or 90 mph. I laughed under my breath as I waited for this joker to be pulled over and wrote up by the unmarked car waiting in traffic directly in front of me. Well...nothing happened! He let this jerk go. I could not believe my eyes. A cut and dried, closed case, classic stack of tickets and impoundment allowed to just go! I am depressed. Same officer would probably write someone later for 5 mph over on the Hwy. Come on guys, I know you can't catch 'em all, but the obvious ones like this?
Comment (1/2004): Yeah, and if cops had to give cops citations just like the rest of the population, you would spill the beans and add a few more spots to this board when you can haul yourself away from the local krispy kreme.
Comment (1/2004): I don't care much for unmarked cars, but I don't write the rules. I do have a problem with the cops in unmarked cars(I know it isn't all, but enough do this to cause problems) who tailgate you until you speed up to get some room, then they give you a ticket. I have seen this from Jedburg to 526 over the years.
Comment (6/2004): I agree, I got a ticket by a unmarked cop on 526, so I did the speed limit (55 with that alone is way to slow for a freeway) and watched other drives pass both me and him doing atleast 65 some faster, I sat there waiting for him to take off after one of them but nope, he just passed me and crused alone at 60ish.
Comment (10/2004): i was traveling to work at the speed limit when an ummarked camaro decided to pull the driver that had just gone past me in the opposing lane so this officer decided to do a u-turn and speed away to catch the motorist before turning on his lights or sirens, and as for his education he promptley u-turned into my fender. education yeah right education !
