Approaching Chesnee, SC from the south on Highway 221 the speed drops from 55 to 45 to 35 very quickly although the road is 4 lanes wide with a large turning lane between them. As you start down a hill toward town, there will be a funeral home on the right and the limit has already dropped to 35. The officers hide on either the left or side of the road and can be found there at nearly any time of day or night. They exploit the fact that the limit has changed so quickly with the signs noting the speed being nearly invisible. The road is still wide and with very little traffic leading you to feel the limit is still 45-55.
Comment (8/2006): I am originally from that town and when they are sitting on the side of the road clocking cars as they come into town at the speed trap this person is talking about, just remember that normally they are actaully sitting outside of the city limits. Which means the ticket can be easily dropped in court. The Chesnee city limits does not start until you actually pass the Bilo grocery store that is on your left.
Comment (08/2008): approaching Chesness from the North on 221, just before the traffic light, the road widens from a two lane to what \"appears\" to be perhaps a four lane road....but without any road markings. Being from out of state one might think this is perhaps a four lane road?!?! DON\'T make that mistake because if you pass a car on the right (even if they are making a left hand turn) and you are well within (or below) the speed limit, you will promptly be given a ticket with the immediate question asked by the officer.. \"where there lines on that road that made you think it was four lane?\"... Why do that ask you that question immediately?? Well the cost is steep... $150.00 and no questions ask. And if you are OUT OF STATE, forget trying to get an exception! Frustrating! Felt like a set-up to this traveling alone female driver.
