On I-526 one mile each way of the I-26 interchange be very careful, North Charleston Police sit in the bottom of the hill waiting with radar. So you come rolling down the decline and they sit with radar at the bottom of the hill. The speed limit changes from 70 to 65 to 55! It is 55 when they nail you, watch for the change in speed limit, it is easy to miss.
Comment (11/2002): Got news for you it never was 70mph !
Comment (12/2002): They have now installed protective fencing (if you want to call it that) along the median of the entire stretch of 526 making it next to impossible for the law to cross the median & catch you. I drive this route EVERY day and never have any problems running 70-80 and that's WITH traffic. Everyone else does the same speed - including the law.
Comment (7/2002): ALSO beware of 526 both ways when crossing the Ashley River
Comment (10/2002): Speed limit change is over a mile away from where they sit.
Comment (9/2003): yes it was 70. In fact it still is 70 coming into charleston.

Trap is for a lane change more than speed. Two roads merge with four or five lanes. One has a solid white line a considerable distance almost to a traffic light. Cop hides in several places waiting to see you cross that white line before the light and has lied in court as to where he was. Don't bother to go to court. You will always lose. This is a money maker for the city.

Turning off on Dorchester road, onto Airport Rd to get to the highway is just asking for a ticket. The speed limit is 35mph, do just that. South Carolina unlike some states allows unmarked cars to pull you over and they have every car you can imagine, BMW's, camaro's you name it. You'll speed up to 55 and the cool black beemer behind you will pull you over. Once you reach the light the speedlimit changes to 45 again do just that. They also you air patrol, and if you're from outta town forget it, because everyone in Charleston knows to go 35, then 45, so if you didnt notice how you left the rest of traffic, thats on you.

The cops on the bridge are dressed as construction workers. After the "constructions workers" know that you are speeding, they radio in to other cops so they can pull you over.

Michaux Avenue between Dorchester Rd and International Blvd. Michaux Ave. is slightly curvy and is a little over a mile long. Posted speed limit is 35mph but could be 45mph. On one section of the road if you are coming from Dorchester and going to International you can't even see the police until you pass them. There is a small trail they like to park on. I know for a fact they use multiple different types of Radar and Laser detection devices. I travel this road about 5 to 10 times a day.

Police sit in the center median as the road goes from two lanes each way to four and sits directly in front of the sun around the corner. They like to get people who pop out around traffic going below the speed limit and really hit the accelerator.

Comment (11/2002): Got news for you it never was 70mph !
