Local officers man the radar along the stretch of 501 going through town. Obey the change of speed limit signs.

Comment (9/2002): Beware! The local officers and highway patrolmen monitor the road that runs next to the high school and the elementary school. They allow teenagers to do anything they please, but are very famous for stopping hard working parents and grandparents.

Comment (6/2003): This area is patrolled at all hours of the day. I went through their on a Wednesday afternoon on my way to Myrtle Beach, and I counted five Aynor PD cruisers and on SCHP working this stretch of US 501. They enforce this area as a revenue generation tool for Aynor's city budget. They heavily enforce the entire length of US-501 in Aynor. Be careful or you'll be making a payment on one of Aynor's shiny new Crown Victoria's.

Comment (1/2004): In the last twenty-five years I have received two speeding tickets, both of them on this stretch of RT. 501. Speed limits change, apparently at random from 55 to 45 to 35 to 45 and even if familiar with the area and observe the speed limit, you are at risk. The technique used by the local police is to station radar cars in low speed areas, tracking the with radar the cars approaching from a higher speed area. Should you pass the lower speed sign at even a slightly higher speed, they'll get you. It is a disgrace and as I recall in a past USA Today article, in SC 85% of tickets are given to out of state drivers. If this is not a speed trap, I don't know what is.

Comment (2/2004): I agree with the writer because Aynor is and always has been a speed trap for those traveling to the beach. Just look at the number of Crown Vic's that they have for such a small town. The taxes sure couldn't pay for them so they are being paid by those who are paying fines. I travel to MYB each week from Florence and I have seen it all. I have never been ticketed there myself but I have sure seen many who were.

Comment (5/2004): Yes US 501 is patrolled regularly by city, county, and state police. On average there are 14,400 cars per day travel this section of the hwy. The speed ranges from 45 to 60 but never dropping to 35. As for all those cars and police officers. There are only 4 city officers that work the road and 3 cars for them to drive. Over a month period there about 250 tickets issued out of the 432,000 cars that pass-by. This results in a .000579% chance of getting a ticket. If you drive the speed limit the you will not have any worries but if you speed beware.

Comment (5/2004): This is the biggest speed trap- late at night you can't see the signs very well (the reflective paint is sun faded). they also dont really have a set amount for a certain ticket. i have recieved 2 tickets both going 15 over one was 171 dollars the other 215. both were at night and there was not a cloud in the sky. spped trap? yes, yes, yes, 1000 times yes!

Comment (5/2004): May 2004. This is a SPEED trap in Aynor. Cops sit at the bottom of the hill as you come into town from the west. You are going down a hill and the speed changes from 60 to 50 to 45. They are using a radar gun pointed up the hill while you are not even in their town. 74 MPH is the common charge, reduced to 70 so you won't fight it. There is no way you could be going 70 mph in traffic over that hill. 1/3 of the towns budget is supplied from speeding tickets. BEWARE!

Comment (6/2004): The State newspaper artile on Aynor being a speed trap but lately has been suffering from not writing tickets in such an eagar fashion.

Comment (6/2004): Just the other day there was an article in the paper about the aynor city officials complaning that the writing of tickets in Aynor had decreased. They said that they know that by human nature, people have not slowed down so apparently you will see an increase in tickets wrote in Aynor. This is becoming all too common as a revenue producer. The cities and counties have taxed us to the limit and now have found this easy way to fill the treasury. It is a disgrace. If the town folks order the beat officer to write tickets, his job is on the line, so what can he do. He will write them. I just yesterday detected this while talking to a small SC town officer. They are afraid of the Chiefs and town councils and have to participate in this revenue enhancement. If Aynor has that many cars coming through, why dont they just make it a toll road and get everyone like they do on Robert Byrds turnpike in VA!

this town has very few police. they enjoy nailing out of state tags. they sit in the median on both sides of town limits

On 10/15/05 and on 10/16/05, the city police agency in this small town was sitting 1.6 miles outside of the posted city limit running radar. Coming from Florence heading eastbound or westbound if you were heading from Aynor heading towards Florence. I am sure many out of state cars got caught by this police agency trying to drive up revenue for their city. It seems that such an act is unlawful since they were sitting outside of their city limits. Regardless of whether it is or not, be on the watch for these cowards. They must be desperate for income.
