The Chapin Police vigorously enforce the 35 mile an hour speed limit. The speed limit drops at the city line--hence coming from the Lake into Town--the cops hide behind the sign at the Catholic Church on Amicks Ferry Road and, from the other end of town, as you come to the High School where the speed drops to 35. It is enforced 24 hours a day.
Comment (1/2003): Make sure that you make COMPLETE stops at all stop signs when turning onto rt 76 in town especially next to Hardies. I got a failure to come to a complete stop ticket at 5:00 AM , YES AM . The cost was $150! Officer said I stopped but not complete. (no one on the road at 5 am)
Comment (3/2003): Make sure you are driving 35 when you get to the sign. Even if you are slowing down as you pass the sign, if you are over 35 you will get a ticket.
Comment (12/2003): Chapin probably generates its entire city budget off traffic tickets. In addition to the high school and Catholic Church sites, Route 76 on both sides of town is used to trap motorists just as speed limits change from 55 to 35. The Chapin police appear to be writing tickets on a constant basis.
Comment (12/2003): Their entire budget? Check your facts, you only proclaim your ignorance with such statements.
Comment (05/2008): chapin police are rediculous and would do anything for any type of bust
