City officers enforce speed limits on both highway 163 and highway 11. Officers drive marked slick top units. They hide next to Calhoun Transportation. They also hide in a driveway on the north end of town. They hide everywhere.

Comment (7/2003): And do not forget I-75, around Exit 36! The enforcement is no more lenient there than it is on 163 or 11. The cops hide here too and in fact, watch out going south for the next 4 to 5 miles.

Comment (3/2004): This speed trap extends to the adjacent town of Charleston. In fact, from mile marker 37 to mile marker 32, that area is probably one of the most-watched portions of I-75 in all of Tennessee. Even at 1 mile over the speed limit.

Comment (11/2004): If you knew about this township you would know that there is a large amount of elderly drivers AND logging trucks traveling 163 and 11. That speed limit I believe is there for a good reason. The community is so close built and so are the roads that anything over the 35 mph is just plumb dangerous.

Comment (1/2005): A speed trap only works if you're speeding. Charleston will pull you over for 1 mile. Calhoun is much more lenient.

Comment (5/2005): i was stopped in Calhoun one night for a burned out bulb. I was very impressed at how polite the officer was. He did not cite me... In fact, he held the flashlight so i coudl change the bulb right there. I suppose if they are going to stop you, they might as well be nice about it.

Comment (11/2007): To the person who commented on the officer who held the light for you while you changed the bulb. That officer was me. I appreciate your comment. Myself and the other officer\'s here try to be as professional as possible. I do think it is a shame that people get tickets for 15 mph over and more and then comment that we stop for one mile over. In fact I can testify that there has not been one ticket written for under 12 over since I have worked here. The only area we don\'t give 15 over is the neighbor hoods. Children play there and people need to go slow. The truth is that the chief simply wont put up with officers writing tickets that are not deserved. I understand if people are not happy when they get a ticket. Neither was I but that doesn\'t give you the right to make fictional statements to try to make the officer look bad. I have cars traveling at 55 to 60 mph in a 35 every day. All well withing the city limits. If you are coming off the interstate on Hwy 163 E you pass a speed limit change ahead sighn, two 45 mph sighns, and two 35 mph sighns all before reaching Bowater Credit Union. If coming south on Hwy 11 you pass a speed limit change ahead sighn and three 35 mph sighns all before Calhoun Transportation. If you come north on Hwy 11 through Charleston by the time you reach CTS you have passed 7 35 mph sighns. This is weel posted wouldnt you agree?

Comment (03/2008): Calhoun does not stop or write for under 15 mph over. You will have a hard time finding any police department more lenient.

Local law enforcement spend their patroling time on this major highway. It was stated that the police wrote 165 speeding tickets in a 30 day period. There is no lee way here. If you are going move than 2 mph over the limit, you WILL recieve a ticket.

Speed on highway 11 is 55, town sign is low with poor speed limit signs. Tennessee speed thru towns is 35, but it doesn't look like a town, only some industrial buildings dot the roadway. Two lane road and traffic moves swiftly.

Small town using speed trap as income. Cars usually near city limits, at one end you cross a high bridge and come into their radar, at the other city limits, you drop off a hill, and come into their radar.
