Seems to target out-of-state cars. I was driving with the traffic through town but was stopped after I left the city limits and my highway speed was recorded on radar. There was no way I could prove my speed through town. The city policeman said he was doing me a favor by writing a municipal ticket instead of a state highway ticket.
Comment (3/2005): I know officers in Bluff City. They do not target out of state cars, they target speeders. Also in 2003 there were 8 fatalities due to wrecks, In 2004 there were only 2 (one of which was because the driver had a heart attack. The speed enforcement has slowed down drivers, therefore there have been fewer accidents.
Comment (3/2004): if the officer wrote a state citation a min state fine is around 270 dollars. all they want to do in that town is to slow vehicles down because so many people have been killed on that stretch of road. i know officers in that department if you were speeding. you were going way to fast. if you cry because you get a ticket you need to slow down or quit driving.
Comment (6/2004): Well I live here and work here and I am just about 2 miles from the 11/19 hi-wayFirst of all most wrecks have been at the intersections of 11 and 19. partly because NO ONE would put up trafic LIGHTS at the two intersections. I also had a friend die below the 11/19intersection. But he died at ..where? An intersection that has no light. Bluff City claims that part as belonging to the City . But they will not go the bill for trafic lights. Once you get to Piney Flats , where there are traffic lights! And from there to Johnson City, very few wrecks have been on that stretch of road... AgainI LIVE HERE! So this is not here-say. Drive safe. WELCOME TO BLUFF CITY!
Comment (11/2004): I live in Bluff City and have talked to other who live here and agree that too many tickets are given out. Also after talking to other who say they will drive elsewhere to buy gas and groceries.
Comment (11/2003): Well he's right. The state tickets are about $160. City ticket just $70
Comment (2/2005): The speed limit drops from 55 to 45 very quickly. Many times the officers sits in the median with no lights on whatsoever. A very dangerous situation. They run radar at both the flea market and near a Burger King.
Comment (4/2005): The highway from the Bluff Ccity river bridge to the Piney Flats intersection is nothing but a speed trap where Bluff City officiers have nothing to do but set up traps so that they can collect fees for the to be able to pay its bills and police officers. The hid off of the road with their lights off just to trap someone exceeding the speed limot especially in the are where the speed limit changes. This definately a speed trap for the city!
