The Chapel Hill, Tennessee patrol US 31-A several time a day. They will park behind the Chapel Hill Elementry School sign to catch people going south where they can not be seen and as people going north as there is a top of a hill just south of the sign. Another place is just south of the south city limits by pulling in a place where a bank of dirt between the highway and a parking place where they can catch people going north. There is a 40 mph speed limit three and a half mile from the start of Horton Park and to the 30 mile speed limit just before you get to Lawerance funeral home.

Comment (12/2005): Chapel Hill is a well known speed trap, with more cops than citizens. Make sure your tags say Tennessee, and you go 30 through town. Almost as notorious as Cornersville, not far away. Your only lucky if your local. :)

Comment (6/2006): The NMA has targeted this community as a speed trap in which we are interested in pursing one of two possible legal challenges, which are detailed below:1) Win a case at the appellate level that establishes that a motorist cannot be found guilty of speeding if the speed limit was not properly set. To participate, you must have received a ticket in this community. 2) Launch a suit to prohibit a particular jurisdiction from issuing tickets to motorists driving on a stretch of road where the limits have not been set according to federal standards. To participate in this option a person does not have to receive a ticket; he or she only has to drive in this area often. Right now, we are looking for people interested in serving as litigants. If you are interested please contact the John Holevoet at the NMA. He can be reached (608) 849-6000 or via e-mail at jph@motorists.org.

Comment (7/2006): I would have to disagree with the above comment. I have been pulled over in Chapel Hill for going 60 mph in 30. I deserved a ticket, but the officer was very nice and just gave me a warning.

Comment (11/2006): All the cops do is sit at the station. You just have to look and see if their car is parked out front, if it is, you are home free.
