This town has US 59 running right through the middle of it for 6-8 miles. Speed drops to 60 mph and down to 50 mph as you approach town from the south. The city cops and an occaisonal state trooper can be found there at any time. Hilly terrain and numerous businesses offer plenty of hideouts (bowling alley, abandoned shopping center, etc.). They patrol back and forth at all hours of the day. When you leave the north side of Atlanta, you are in Queen City that also has a 50 mph speed limit. Drivers beware. They give no tolerance.
Comment (7/2005): Was ticket on 59 in May '05, for going just 5 miles over the speed limit by DPs. Tropper followed me for over 10 miles before he performed the stop, waiting until I was in the Quenn City limits. Petty, money hungy area! Beware!
Comment (5/2005): Efforts have been stepped up. Tickets being written for drving in the passing (left hand) lane are not uncommon.State Troopers are now constantly patrolling this stretch.
Comment (5/2005): Was notorious in the 70s, 80s, and 90s, but I travel US59 regularly, and haven't seen any patrolmen or parked cars in several years.
Comment (3/2006): I live in Douglassville, and I hate going through Queen City, those flash light cops will put you over for going 0.5mph over the speed limit. They do not play around, and plus they don't have anything else better to do.
Comment (3/2006): I travel through Queen City and Atlanta(the city lines touch each other). The cops are very aggressive in this area. State troopers, county and city, you can usually see at least 2-3 in a 6 mile stretch. Slow down and stay in your lane when in this town. I have not been stopped, but I constantly see cars pulled over and cops hiding.
