At least 3 police vehicles writing tickets as fast as possible---there is no warning of zero tolerances & most drivers are tourists so they can ticket anyone that goes by since they dont wait for those that are more than 9 miles over the posted 70mph. It is a 4 lane divided highway.
Comment (7/2002): There is no HWY. 84 north of Abilene. It comes from the south and stops at Abilene. The Highway patrol and Sheriff depts will ticket at 4 mph over the speed limit. not 7 mph.
Comment (7/2002): There is 84 North but it follows I20 from Abilene to Rosco then cuts off and goes north to Lubbuck
Comment (7/2002): Actuall, US84 does continue North. It is combined with IH20 to Roscoe.
Comment (2/2003): 84 is really bad at Snider.
Comment (8/2003): I am an EMT in Snyder. The traffic on 84 here is terrible, due to people having no regard for their own safety let alone the safety of others. I have personnaly had people pass me while on an emergency run with lights and siren running. I'm talking about people running 15 to 20 miles per hour or more over the speed limit. I have also had people run through accident scenes on 84 and never slow down. These are probably the same people who are complaining about this road being a speed trap. The speed limit is set for a reason. "Your Safety and Mine". These people should understand the state does allow for defective or faulty speedometers. However, if your passing everything on the road like it is sitting still. You are probably speeding and you are breaking the law. If you are big enough to drive like a fool. Be big enough to accept the consequences and don't cry about it.
Comment (8/2003): The comment about the Texas State Troopers citing at 4 mph or greater is absolutely "false" our policy is to issue a warning or citation at 6mph or over however I will tell you this. I am a Texas "State Trooper" and i usually dont write a citation for anything under 12. If the travelers of this state will slow down and respect the lives of those around them they will be able to afford to drive. I invite anyone to work a month in my shoes and experience the tradgedy and sadness and loss of innocent life that I do. I bet that each and everyone of you will have a new outlook on driving. Then complain about the so called "speed traps" which I will also add that it is not a trap. We are out there working and merely affording drivers to break the laws of "our great state" I would appreciate it if you wouold publish this it may cause someone to stop and think and save on of our loved ones lives. - Thanks
Comment (9/2003): Have you ever been on US-84, their is absolutly nothing on that road. They should change the limit to "as fast as you want". I got pulled over for going 75 while following an older couple in a SUV, cop pulls over the college student with a sports car. Not one car passed us 'both ways' in the 10 minutes that I was pulled over. The only reason why they patrol that road is to make money.
Comment (2/2004): i have to agree with the state trooper, many people gripe about 4-7 mph over the speed limit. in all reality your breaking the law. for the person saying the trooper pulled a college student over verses the older couple in the suv is discrimination towards the youth your wrong. cops are not stupid, many cops have been young at one time and know the old games to sneaking by. when following somebody who is speeding many cops will pull the second vehicle over first because the cop know your trying to avoid the ticket. just slow down and abide by the law.
Comment (2/2004): The comment about the Texas State Troopers citing at 4 mph or greater is absolutely "false" our policy is to issue a citation at 6mph or over however I will tell you this. I am a Texas "State Trooper" and if you go even 1 mph over the speed limit (71 day 66 night) I will write you up a ticket so fast it'll make your head spin! if travelers of this state will slow down and respect the lives of those around them they will be able to afford to drive. I invite anyone to work a month in my shoes and experience the tradgedy and sadness and loss of innocent life that I do. I bet that each and everyone of you will have a new outlook on driving. Comment (2/2004): I'll be sitting on the median of milepost 287, don't speed ! you may honk at me as you pass by and wave at me, but you don't want me pulling you over, believe me. I can be a good cop, or your worst nightmare, the choice is yours. 70 mph is the speed limit
Comment (2/2004): Well it's like this, I drive I20 between Weatherford and Ranger often. 2-3 times a week for more than 10 years. Seldom do I see an accident. Mostly I see people, the home owner types loosing a tire breaking an axel or just breaking down. In all these cases I never see an officer offering assistance to these motorists. I have been broke down on this streach mile marker 287 and did not receive any help. Surprised? I'm not. I watched a state trooper write tickets and ignore me. Thanks for the help officer ? at mile marker 287. I figure he must have been busy catching the menaces to socity that drive to fast in the-middle-of-no-where. If an officer has nothing better to do than take money from passing motorists something is wrong. I can't even get an officer to respond when I watch a punk breaking into a car. Yet we need more officers catching speeders? Who can figure? Around the turn of the century people who took money from people on the highway were called highwaymen. Officer ? at yard stick 287 instead of offering threating comments, Why don't you serve the public you are sworn to protect in stead of showing us how unyielding and programed you are. Your very presents on the highway will slow most down. I realize you do serve a purpose in our socity but enough is enough. Safty first not revenue formost.
Comment (2/2004): Sir or ma'am, I'm very sorry if I sound threatening or mean, I just want to maintain safety on the highway, and i'm sorry there are vandals breaking into cars or loitering, or whatever. We're trying our best to police the city and trying to get more officers to worry about other things than speeding. I swear, we also target other criminal activities that are more serious...

Comment (2/2004): Well it's like this, I drive I20 between Weatherford and Ranger often. 2-3 times a week for more than 10 years. Seldom do I see an accident.
