They have at least three version of this trap that I have witnessed. 1) Two motorcylce cops using radar will park in the Fina parking lot and check speed of motorists as the come around the final curve to the next intersection. 2) Multiple bike cops and potrol cars using the same method except one officer checks speeds, another on foot waves down cars, and a third writes the citation. 3) Most sneaky version was witnessed Thursday Feb 7, 2002. police used a stopped 18 wheeler with hazards on to block view of Fina's parking. At the front ot the stopped truck was the officer checking speeds. Behind the truck were 4 patrol cars and at least 8 officers ready to issue citations. method of stopping violators is the same as #2 above.
Comment (5/2002): Here lately they have been just parking police cars in their normal trap spots off the road and if you look when you pass there is no cop inside!!! so you never know when there is a cop inside so BEWARE!
Comment (6/2002): Arlington has been setting up decoy vehicles along I-20 in both directions for a while now, however, apparently some new funds came thru and Arlington is now starting to use some RAID type vehicles (SEE OKC OK ENTRIES FOR RAID). I fear that this decoy stuff is only a warning, and that I-20 will turn into another shooting gallery similar to what Grand Prarie runs on the 360 expressway.
Comment (8/2002): OK,folks preminition came true! Arlington is now actively radaring traffic in the mornings on the east bound side of Interstate 20. Heavy enforcement. 70 will keep you safe 71 will not. Pay close attention between Green Oaks and the Wynne Fwy (SR 360)
Comment (10/2002): People drive way way way way too fast in the DFW area anyway. About time the cops start pulling people over. Having a 60 MPH speed limit for smog control is crazy when no one drives it.
Comment (2/2003): The location should be changed to the feeder road east bound along I-20 between Kelly eliott and Park Springs Blvd. Pleasant Ridge runs parallel to I-20 and is about 1 mile North of I-20. What is most upsetting about the tactics the police use to catch speeders? The fact that they parked on the shoulder of the road or in a Fina parking lot? Or were you upset because the reason you were stopped and ticketed because you were exceeding the posted speed limit? I live near this area. The posted speed limit is 40 m.p.h. I have witnessed people passing me who were driving approximately 75 m.p.h. The fact that there is a blind curve, or a congested intersection ahead should concern you more than whether the police will do their job today. This is not a speed trap.
Comment (3/2003): The police could give out a million tickets a day. People are still going to drive fast. The only way anybody will learn is the hard way.
Comment (3/2003): Arlington and Fort Worth police are now using unmarked cars for traffic stops...one was in a blue Taurus yesterday....so any car pulled over to the side may be watching you...this is from I 35w to sh360.

This area is marked 30mph. Police catch you with radar when coming over the hill south bound on Kelly Elliot. It's hard to keep your speed at 30 or below. This area is very active during noon when teens from Martin High are leaving for lunch.

Keep in mind that Arlington like all cities in TX (and others) are in a financial bind. Read the FW Star Telegram articles (www.startelegram.com) about the posibility of not hireing PD or Fire during the rest of the budget cycle. Enforcement activities are up on all the streets and Hwy's where possible. Can you say budget cuts.

There are two different areas on Green Oaks where they do this. The first is about halfway between Bowen and Cooper streets, where one officer stands a few feet back from the sidewalk at Emerald Park Blvd. You cannot really tell it is an officer until you get almost right on top of him. He has the gun and when you pass you will see about 4 bikes and 2 cars on that street ready to chase whoever needs chasing. The second occurence is between Matlock and Collins after it turns into SE Green Oaks. Here they use teh same type of setup. They have one guy standing out with the gun at the parking lot raight after Cravens Park where the road starts curving. There is again about 4 motorcycles and 2 cars waiting to issue tickets. They switch between the spots, and are not there everyday. It is always between 4:30 and 5 when I pass through and see them on my way to class at TCC.
